Picking up a new Canon 5D mk 11 as the store has agreed to take my new Pentax K-5 in on trade I have been a pentax man for so long I have more dodads than most stores. Pentax makes a fine camera but the full frame becons me. What would you do? Canon 5d with 24-105mm and the 100-400mm tradin my pentax and lenses and all my accessories plus 1000.00. Sounds too good to pass up.

what advantage would a full frame give you? pentax is a great casmera brand, their newest dslr the k-30 is getting rave reviews, unlike olympus it is still suporting aps sensor dslrs. Oly seems to be slowly going over completly to 4/3rds and micro 4/3rds system. if you have allot invested in pentax, stay with them. I am a nikonian but if i were just starting out i would look real hard at pentax. they got moxie!

I purchased my first Pentax in 1966.It was a Spotmatic. My last Pentax was an LX.I switched to Nikon because Pentax was still screw in lens.I am Happy with Nikon, but would have stayed with Pentax if bayonette mount was available.

I'd do the deal. I'm not a Pentax fan so this wouldn't happen to me. I shoot and always recommend Canon products - sounds great to me.

The 5D Mark 2 is one of the best cameras ever made. Super low noise at high ISO, 21 megapixel for big beautiful prints, full frame. I'm going to do the same thing with my 7D, but haven't decided if I'm going with the Mark 2 or 3 yet. Although, I might just save up and keep the 7D as well, I can't bare the thought of letting it go as it's also way up there on the list of best cameras. Any rate you got a pretty good deal and I wouldn't trip. Just wait till you get it home and take a few shots, then you'll answer your own question. Congratulations on the new camera.

Did you try to sell the K-5 and lenses? It is like trading in a car selling our right if you can always saves you money. May work out better than a trade in as they are giving you wholesale prices for it? Try selling on the Pentax Forum http://www.pentaxforums.com/ or at http://www.camera-enthusiast.com

Hello outsider, When i stepped up from the 7d to mkII i wanted to sell the 7d to help pay for it,, and then the same idea when i moved up to the mkIII . The other nite i found myself out shooting lightning and starlight with all 3 cameras at the same time. I realized that i never got around to selling anything and am very glad i didnt. I dont know how i managed to afford it but it worked out somehow. you are right about the mkII but the mkIII is incredible, hold out for it if you can.

If it was the Mark III I would say it was a good deal but other than being Full Frame I see no real advantage in the Mark II. Dxo rates the K-5 better in all but high ISO the K-5 wins in the categories that are important to me which is image quality and dynamic range. I guess I will wait it out to see if Pentax brings a FF to market.
