I find that Bing does the search AND THE SELECTION. Google at least does the search and makes it obvious that the paid responses come first so I can just jump ahead.

I got the creeps with the Google philosophy years ago and have found Bing does well.
They can track me as I walk around my house, go to the store, senior lunch, yoga, and painting class. I'm a gold mine of information for them.
I am thinking the same thing, working with windows edge now.

It may be that Microsoft with Bing does much of what Google does - don't know. But I gave up Google several years ago when its operational practices became know - especially selling my info to others. Info that I had no choice but to provide. Started to sign up for Linked In - stopped when I read its agreement that said I was giving permission to access my list of contacts to solicit their enrollment - that ended it!
Just recently, for its early testers for their next major update, Microsoft Windows experimented with preventing users from installing the Chrome or Firefox browsers. Does that really sound like a company that doesn't want to control your browsing experience? They aren't going to go forward with that "experiment," but I would trust Google over Microsoft any day. Like others have pointed out, DuckDuckGo doesn't track your browsing AS FAR AS WE KNOW. In Edge you can always open a "New InPrivate window" and in Chrome a "New incognito window" if you don't want your info saved. Click on the 3 little dots in the upper right corner of the browser for the settings. You can also get into the settings from there to change your default search engine. Personally, I put up with Google's advertising in exchange for the free services they offer. If folks will recall, before Google came about, Microsoft was controlling everything and scheming to find ways to monetize all of their services. If not for Google, we probably would have no choices about our internet habits. They absolutely forced Microsoft to loosen their expanding control of the internet. I am very grateful.
I use Startpage on ALL my devices. For my phone, my internet is with Brave, and my search engine with Startpage.
Influencing searches, tracking and other things with a political bias.

Enlighten me. What have you found out about Google that makes you want to go to Bing?

Firefox is your BROWSER, not your SEARCH ENGINE. Two different things. Google, Bing, Duck Duck Go are search engines. Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera, are browsers.
You can use any search engine with any browser.
I use both. The Win 10 search box, know as "Cortana", uses Bing. When Win 10 was first issued, in August 15', I was able to select the search engine used for Cortana. Microsoft quickly eliminated that option. If I'm browsing (on my main monitor) and I want to search, I use Cortana (Bing) and it opens on my 2nd monitor. I really like that I do not have to minimize or leave my site to search. Of course, two monitors helps.

They didn't eliminate it. It's just a bit hard to find. From Edge, click the "..." in the upper right corner, then select "Settings". Scroll down to "View Advanced Setting", then scroll down to "Change Seach Engine"
One may change the search engine for the Bing address bar, but Cortana will always use Bing. I do not think other search engines are an option. If you know a method, I'd be delighted to know about it.
Thanks,
Mark
