You tipped over in your Kayak for the very first time. I remember tipping over in a canoe with a friend, as a teenager. Although the two of us could swim, it was not a good experience. The Canon SX50 is discontinued, however, you should be able to find a refurbished or used one at a good price. Good luck.

Tipped over for the first time ever in my kayak and my Canon SX50 wasn’t in the dry bag so it is at the bottom of the Wakulla River in NW Florida. I am sick because I used it when I didn’t want to carry my Canon 7D II. Going to replace it with another bridge camera. Kinda wanted to stay with Canon because I know how to use them but am open to another suggestion. Any thoughts?

Check out the Nikon P1000.

The obvious successor would be the Canon SX60 HS, the replacement for the SX50 HS. Being a Canon user myself, I wanted a bridge camera with a larger sensor and a relatively flat form factor to carry in my pocket. I also wanted a viewfinder. I settled on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100. That was a while ago, If you are happy with the form factor of the SX50, you might consider the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. It doesn't have the reach of the SX50, but it has better low light performance with the 1" sensor and a f/2.8-4 lens.

Cameras and Kyaks do not seem to be a good mix somehow! Cellphones too! Why not just enjoy the kyaking?

That seems like a good idea actually. Still wanted a bridge camera to have when not taking my 7d

I also like and have the sx50 and it does a great job. Some really downplay the quality you can get from a bridge camera, but being light and a zoom that goes up to 1200mm with great IS you get very good hand held shots at all ranges. They have a newer on that has a little more zoom but there are a few downfalls with it. Reviews say it is worth the downfalls to get some of the other features. I would look for another SX50. I tested Canon against Nikon and I thought the Canon had better color. Good luck

If you liked your 50, and obviously you did, I vote for a SX60 as a replacement. I really enjoy mine.
