As seen while leaving Arches National Park.
I thought so, too, Doc. Thanks.

'Desert alpen glow,' Mike? I like that. Ok if I steal this phrase? Maybe use it as a title for something? Up 'til now, I've just thought of it 'the slickrock shuffle.'

I would be honored if you use it, Jim.
When I clicked on "download" the picture came up full screen on my computer - it is simply stunning!

That's kind of a winding road to not be looking ahead while driving, Jim. But I, for one, am glad you were looking around. This is truly beautiful.

Hard to steal that one Cany. It is a recognized phenomenem caused by refraction of sun rays reflecting off the atmosphere and lighting up the opposite side of the scene from where the sun has set. It only occurs for a brief moment after the sun is down. Your pic does not look exactly like alpenglow, but is very nice nonetheless.
BTW, you make us jealous living in the heart of such great scenery. Now if only it was not so hot and dry...

You're absolutely right, f4. The road
is sort of snaky in that section. And people
should keep their eyes on the road. If they keep their eyes on the road, they might not notice that Jeep parked off the road. And if they keep their eyes on the road, they
definitely won't notice some person out there with a camera who's looking around, or is maybe headed toward the route into Courthouse Wash Canyon, and they won't think to stop themselves. Which makes me (for one) appreciate your comment all the more.
Tazzy, Sue, Jerry..... thanx!
Love the last rays on the rock, beautiful.

Right you are. About the alpenglow. It happens around here from time to time, and when it happens, the nearby mountains get all lit up pink and salmon colored. The cliffs, on the other hand, not so much; they just get some silly last light stuff before the sun goes down. Which makes "Desert Alpen Glow" a unique and eminently steal-able phrase?
And right you are about hot and dry, too, sagacious nikonbug. If you'll provide me with your shipping address, I'll gladly send you as much hot and dry as you'd like so you won't need to feel jealous about anything, my moist, cool friend.
