After six days of rain and little shooting in two weekends Saturday morning was a good makeup day. The clouds were gorgeous and made the images pop. I shot all on 3 shots, +1 0 -1 Iso 100 F8. These were all taken within 15 miles of home. The water shots are at The Big Marsh, Butler county Iowa. Every visit brings about more beauty of nature. I really like the portrait version of the spillway and the flowers. This spillway usually only flows during spring thaw so this was a special treat.

These were all very enjoyable. My kind of place! Might check lens spots noticeable in first photo.

Thank you. Lol they are not lens spots but actually red winged black bird zooming in and out photobombing me. I was going to clone them out and forgot to do so.

Outstanding shots and the colors are glorious. Your compositions and camera positions appear to be right on and your good eyes show in your photos.

I received a private message and thought I would share some of it here. He stated all the images have one thing in common centered horizons and that I got away with it in the last image but the others it makes them uninteresting. I think it works on all of them, the first one is a mirror image and intent was to show the complete mirror effect of the water and sky.

The second image had too cool of a sky and my eye sees the flowers first then the water the large tree and the Hurd skies above. Works for me.

The third one maybe has a point.

The fourth one is my favorite and the flowers and leading lines of the spillway keep my attention just fine and although this couldbe cropped I chose to keep the sky above.

Fifth on the grass and the clouds complement each other as if the are trying to copy each other's appearances.

Well now I have did it and opened this up for deeper discussion and review by the others here. I like the looks of them the way they are as it is what I saw and how I saw it and what made me capture them. Also living on the prairies like I do the sky and the land share equal parts of the horizon. Had the skies been clear blue more land would have been shown but in each of these there was interest in both and were shared equally if that logic works.

So somebody once read a beginners book on photo composition. What I like about art is that there really are very few hard-and-fast rules. I see that your horizons are NEAR the center of the images. Maybe could have been skooched up or down a tad but with as much action as there is in the sky AND in the foreground of your images, I think that they are much better than OK as they are. MAYBE #3 could have had the top tier of clouds cropped out, but I would not want to lose anything in any of the other images.

These are all pleasing, to this newbie! My favorite is also the one you noted, with the narrow angle between the image center and the edge of the water falling!

I think if you are happy with them that's all that matters Duane.
