I found two Cottonmouths foraging in a small creek, just before daybreak.
(low-light conditions) I was never in any danger.
Northern Cottonmouth - aka Water Moccasin
(Agkistrodon piscivorus) - Venomous
W. Kentucky, USA - 9/03/2018
1/250 sec - f/8.0 - ISO 2500
Interesting Tidbit: Cottonmouths can be found during the day or night, but
forage primarily after dark during the hotter parts of the season. Cottonmouths
are excellent swimmers. They prefer to stay close to the water’s surface with
their heads out. The lifespan of a water moccasin in the wild is about 15-20 years.

Excellent shots, especially the last one!
Good eyes to see them. Great skills to photograph them so well.

Mike, excellent photos and per my own experience the facts mentioned I have experienced myself. I have also expierenced (while fishing) Cotonmouths catching and eating catfish around riprap on major lakes in NC. Again, the photos are great.

I guess it's all in your personal perception. To me it's nothing more or less than nature.
I give it the space and respect it demands and admire it for what it is.
