The rut is about to begin on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. I
got this guy this a.m. Close to the road. Soon he will begin to gather his
harem and then defend it from other bulls. To do so means he rarely sleeps
and eats only in snacks. The rut lasts until mid-October. Come on over for
some excellent photo opps.

As I live on the front range myself, I'm looking forward to running up to RMNP during the next few weeks to see the rut. It is amazing.
I was driving to Steamboat 2 weeks ago, through the park, and I shot this one from the car window. Not my best shot (focus is poor), but it was a magnificent animal.
Perhaps we'll run into each other one of these trips.
As I live on the front range myself, I'm looking forward to running up to RMNP during the next few weeks to see the rut. It is amazing.

This was from yesterday morning at Moraine Park on the East side. The only bull we heard or saw bugling. They starting to bunch up, so in another week or two they should be in full rut. Lots of good photo ops and amazing time when one of these beasts walks within 20 feet of you.
