Hi Hoggers, this is Mark on my wife's profile page. She forgot to log off and I'm too lazy to put everything on mine...so...my wife and I just got back from a road trip to see my son in northeastern Oregon and here's a few from our trip. This area of Oregon is very pretty and with the blackberries ripe and abundant, I was in heaven.

This is a part of a trail system that runs along the Walla Walla River.

It's amazing how the trees grow in the drainages, but the hilltops are devoid of them. Must be weather related either by moisture or wind or a combination of both. Notice the abandoned truck.

Northeastern Oregon is indeed great country. Years ago, I lived on a small farm in the Grande Ronde Valley, out of La Grande, Oregon. In 1944 I was a junior at Imbler High School (4 rooms, 45 students in grades 9-12). We were out beyond Summerville – no gas or electricity, running water piped in from a creek. Summerville is a bit of a misnomer; they say there are two seasons there – winter and August! But in August the corn grew so fast you actually could stand and see the plants growing. The soil was very fertile; alfalfa grew to six feet in height! We had a very mild winter, coldest was just 20 below and with only two feet of snow on the ground at any time, where usually it could be six. It all really was a marvelous experience, complete with many special memories.

Very nice. I would guess this is part of the Blue Mountain range in Oregon. It is beautiful country. The cascades of the west side of Oregon, somewhat near the coast are awesome too.

Very nice Mark, it is beautiful country. This post seems to have touched some old locals...I was born in La Grande in 1942.

Helps you understand why the Oregon Trail was seen as the Highway to Heaven.

Thanks for a taste. The Walla Walla drainage shot was the most powerful for me.
