Awesome portrait, but that wire is a distraction.

Took this yesterday of an old southern gentleman who was kind enough to pose for me in Savannah Georgia. Question is, is the wire a distraction and would it be best to remove? Still not really good with removing objects in photoshop

If and when you remove it would the position of his right arm and hand look rather awkward????

Nice job. Also notice you adjusted the exposure a bit which gives the image more punch and clarity.

I’m a painter, and that wire definitely stands out! You can pretty easily remove it with Photoshop (I’m still using the last desktop version). It’s a beautiful photo, so why not make it even better. If you don’t have Photoshop, there are some other options that are very affordable.

Look at the difference when the wire is removed. Because the wire is a bright object the eye tends to go there so yes, it is a distraction.
By the way, excellent portrait and you have an excellent eye.

I like the original best. The touched up is good to, but I still am liking the original.

The "after" photo looks better to me. Maybe if the wire were darker and not so white it wouldn't be as bad. But I think it looks better without it. The picture is very good, love the man and his red suspenders!

Remember how much Steve Curry got beat up about removing distracting details from his photos? In the examples I saw of Curry’s edited images, the edits did pretty much what removing the the rope or wire does to this photo - it ensures the viewers attention stays focused on the intended subject and the story he was conveying in the photograph. But he took tremendous, unfair heat for it.

Remove the wire or rope in this photograph and the viewer will focus all their attention on the wonderful subject in the image that drove the photographer to take the photograph in the first place.

Love the photo but would agree that the wire is distracting. There are a number of options for eliminating it or at least darkening it.
