I was at Best Buy in Anchorage today, and of course I had to look at the cameras there. They had an RX100VI there and I picked it up to see how it felt in the hands. I was surprised at how small it is. This is a camera I've been looking at a lot, but am concerned about the tiny size. My assessment was that it is small, but looks well made and sturdy. Unfortunately that's about it, as the camera wouldn't turn on! My hands are pretty big, so I think handling it might be clumsy for me. I'm wondering what other RX100VI owners think about their camera.

I also looked at a Canon G7XII, and it felt pretty good.

The BIG attraction for the RX100 series is the small size pocketability ....vs the high IQ.

The first thing I do with any of these smaller but refined camera's is go on eBay and buy an accessory grip.... not a battery grip but an accessory grp. On my faux rangefinder Fuji X trans, the end result is almost exactly the size of the Olympus OM1 I used to shoot film in around 1972. Perfect for me, and no serious weight gain. One mount screw in the tripod socket and a replacement tripod screw hole in the accessory grip. NO PROBLEM!

Cost for a well machined alloy accessory grip, rarely over $50 if even near that.

JB Camera Designs makes bamboo and metal camera grips in Oklahoma and the one I have on my Lumix LX100 gives me a very confident one hand grip on the little gem. Try Amazon search "JB Camera Design Camera Grip" and you should be able to see some of the lineup. They are priced somewhere around $60-$80 depending upon the complexity. Best I have seen on the market AND Made in the USA !! ... By the way, I won't part with mine for love or money. The grip for the LX100 has been discontinued in their catalog. Their grips allow access to all controls, battery/card doors, etc. and include a metal female socket for a tripod.

Greg, the III is my EDC pocket camera, and the way I think of it; if it's small enough for my pants (and jeans) pocket, it's probably too small for my hands, but if it fits my hands comfortably (as does the a6000), then it's too big for my jean pockets. It's a choice; one or the other.

When I look at making the camera larger with grips, extenders, etc., I just think; 'why not just buy a larger camera?'.

Where I think I'm going here is the way of simplifying my kit, so to speak. What interests me about the RX100vi is that with it's 24-200 lens, I can have everything I now have with the A6300 and the 16-50 and 55-210 zoom lenses, only in a compact package, and I don't have to change lenses. Yes, it has a smaller sensor, but I think the 1" sensor would be adequate for my needs. And I'd be able to put all of this in a shirt pocket. There have been a couple suggestions as to a handgrip for the camera, which makes sense to me. The price tag is a bit much, though I believe I can sell my current gear for enough to fund the RX100vi. I guess what it all amounts to is a shifting of gears. For what I do, I think it would do well.

Before I buy a camera online, I always look up dimensions and weight to make sure it is just right for my purposes.

I have the Panasonic TZ100, the competitive choice, same sensor, different features. Both are excellent and not your usual pocket compacts, outstanding. Adding the filter holder opens up a wider world of photography compared to out of the box.

I shoot with the RX100 family of camera's. I am 6'3" and 195 lbs. and have grown accustomed to the size of the RX family. It was a quick learning curve for me because I have used many Sony smalls in the past. The zeiss lenses on these camera's are simply phenomenal. Images so sharp they easily compare to my 810, I can get very sharp 16X24's out of these RX camera's. My favorite one is the RX100 II because it is the only one out of the 6 to have a hot shoe, and I love turning my flash head around for beautiful indoor soft lighting. The pop up view finder I have on my HX90V is very nice for outside shooting and should be a welcome addition on the VI. I am sure if you bought it you would grow to love it as much as the many owners of the RX100 family can attest.

I own the Canon G7XII. It is a wonderful camera. I use it when I go on strenuous hikes.

That was one of my objections to the RX100 series - small body with tiny controls. And I don't have big hands.

I have the original Sony RX100 and the Sony RX100 VI and I love the camera, I have taken it to concerts where you can't take a camera in and have taken shots without flash from a distance and they still looked great. I have taken landscape shots at night and printed them at 13X19 and won photo contests with them. The VI camera offers a 24-200mm lens, pop-up view finder, and tilt touch screen that the first one did not have. I put a grip on both cameras https://www.ebay.com/itm/Quick-Release-Vertical-L-Bracket-Plate-For-SONY-DSC-RX100-Mark-V-IV-III-II-RX100/323313966378?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D52935%26meid%3Db11df384cb6140ddae9042ac8b7373e0%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D192576346325%26itm%3D323313966378&_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985 which helps when holding the camera.

Don’t give up on the Canon G7X MKII—-great walk around camera with a very nice lens and easy menus and features. Gets you up to speed quickly and makes street photography a lot of fun. Originally concerned with 100 mm reach but have found I don’t miss the extra length a few other compacts provide while the G7XII has better IQ in my opinion. Good luck.

On eBay you can buy a cute retro-looking faux leather case with a neck strap for models I to V for about $16 from China. I have a iii, and this case helps me hang onto the camera safely. At the moment the only similar case I saw for the RX100vi was real leather and cost $55.
