I found a great free program that lets me design flow charts. It's called Diagram Designer, and it's not difficult to use, but it does take some learning. If you use it, you should follow the rules of diagram design, in terms of the shapes of the boxes. I made one to help me decide where to put things if I ever decide to get off the computer and straighten up the house. For donations, I've substituted Salvation Army for Good Will. Good Will is a business that accepts items from people and sells them for a profit. The Salvation Army actually helps people in need.

Yes, GW is a business, but they hire and train many people that other companies don't want to deal with - the "challenged" folks that really need assistance - so, although it isn't a charity, it does a lot of good.

The SA is awesome - when a tornado took out 1/3 of a town, they were one of the first responders with food, clothes and housewares/furniture - they are #1 on my donation list...

I used to think that about Goodwill. However I've learned since then that isn't true. They used to hire people to fix things. They no longer do that. They used to hire people with learning disabilities. They no longer do that. I was told in my local store that they simply hire anyone willing to work for their paltry pay.

I think that is a local management policy - the GW's that I deal with work with social services and churches to place folks with disabilities - there are more disabled folks than they have positions for but he good thing is, the local businesses have seen what productive folks they are and are starting to hire them as they are reliable and trustworthy - hard to find those qualities in the current work force...

I'll have to try it out. I found an old chart outlining the steps to a scientific publication, probably dating from 1960.

It occurs to me that your chart needs to be spread out somewhat more to record where on it an item had gone. Actually both do sell items back to the public, it is just in how they spend the proceeds.

Jerry, I loved the chart. I have two over organized family members that I shared it with, even they were "Holy Smokes" impressed.
Great work.

I agree. I applied for a job with my local Goodwill a dozen times in 2 years, actually begging them to give me a chance. Even quoted their mission statement that claimed their aim was to help handicapped and others facing employment hurdles earn a paycheck and become self-sufficient. Yet, all I saw during those 2 years were healthy, young people being hired. The fact that they pay their CEO $700,000 a year also made me question how "charitable" they really are. I can walk by the Salvation Army center in my town any day of the week and see them actually helping people.

And the top officials in the Salvation Army take VERY modest salaries, not millions as with many of the other so-called charities (one of the worst of which is the Red Cross).

Next step might be to construct a relational database, such as FileMakerPro, save names of stuff to be found where and when 'parked.'
