Surprise on a busy mountain Hiway

I was on Monarch Pass and came across mountain goats on the road. I think they were licking the road to get the salt maybe. I was lucky they were in a place where I could quickly pull off. Quickly grabbed camera, no time to changes lenses, just focus and shoot.

Jerry, we have seen them quite often in the last few months. Not sure why. The cars were very careful, slowed down or just stopped. I sure don't want to see them get hit.

PS- No sign of the changing to fall colors, wonder if it will be early this year after the hot, dry summer?

Thanks, and a little further east there is some color high on the pass. The Crested Butte Visitors Bureau say they will be early.
