Yes this shows that not all Nikon lens owner will have full functionality using their older F-mount glass on these new cameras with the FTZ adapter. That will stop some of these folks from buying into this new system.

I read that article and it said that almost every lens made by Nikon since the mid 80's would work with full functionality. I don't know how many of us have Nikon lenses more than 40 years old, and those of us who do still know how to focus them manually just like we did then.

I would order the Z and take my 800 on vacation. The newer technology is going to replace the mirror and prism, and I believe it is going to happen very quickly. I have both, and the mirrorless is just so much superior that it is going to happen at the same speed digital has replaced film. If you get your 850 now, you know you are just going to get the Z next year anyway, so why do it?

I think it's better to buy the Z now and the D850 next year if they make more of them. Right now you wouldn't get any discount on the D850. The Z would take much longer for the price to drop.

I thought it was compatible with the D lenses. Must have read it wrong.

Compatible if they have a focusing motor in the lens. Some of them do. If they don't (all of mine) then you get manual focus only. This was pointed out when I didn't make that distinction.

The Z7 will have better performance features than the D850 except in two important areas, battery life and dual card slots, where the Z7 suffers in comparison. But the distinct mirrorless advantages will get many to prefer the Z7 over the D850. Things like that excellent EVF, true silent shooting, finally better autofocus in video, newer optimized lenses .lighter weight, etc.

Personally have too much tied up in glass (Canon) to switch platforms without the new platform providing an earth shattering feature my current platform can't compete with.

My order says "begin shipping in 2018-9-27." I think you are off about a year.

Read Ken rockwells review he claims if you dont order it today chances are you wont get one till fall of 2019 , only ones ordered now will ship This September , just look at the back orders on the D850 just filling back orders now....of course you have to take Ken with a grain of salt..if you want one soon better order today...

What's wrong with XQD cards? I have had no problems with them and my D850 and they are great for speed with BIF and other action shots.

If you introduce cameras that people want to buy and you can't deliver them fast enough the money isn't going into your pocket but rather into the people who resell them for profit. How do you know if Nikon didn't already have warehouse full of the Z's and all those time when they didn't ship the D850 they were busy making them Z's.

Z6 will be just as good and over $1,000 cheaper than the Z7

But, you’re better off evaluating your needs and Picking the tool that Best meets them.

Then comparisons of needs versus capability matters. Otherwise, it’s just a waste of time.

If I hadn't acquired a mirrorless system that would require me to replace my lens before, why would I do so now with this Nikon that also would also necessitate new lenses? What has changed?
The sensor in the Z7 will make it just as unobtainable as the D850 is now.

Your exact words he said the same thing , they get bought up in the first days by brokers that can buy lots of them then the only ones for sale are mark ups on ebay , because large photography stores ship there allocations and are waiting for more shipments .. again not my words his . Other than that he has some good images of the camera and explains the features. Some nice images of the adapter and what lenses can and can't be auto focus . Nice to find out there is no pelicle mirror . He also says the sensor is the closest to the mount than all other mirrorless cameras 16mm. Says that will allow use of Lieca and Early Nikon fast rangefinder lenses that is sure 3rd party venders will build apapters for. Also no pin drive all my d lense will become manual focus but still useable in aperture priority .
