I used Photoshop Elements to extract the horse. Filled in the background and put the horse back into the photo.

Just "horsin" around with this. Sorry about the sheep, but it is pouring rain here and this is one I had on hand.
I just cut the horse out in PSE and added him into a picture I had.

if you can use a cs4 program use the mask technique. set your and your copy as the second layer. use gaussian blur for the second picture then erase the horse (which erases the blur and then the horse is sharp and the baclground is barely reacognizeable and blurry.) that should get you waht you are looking for. You can play with the degree of blur too. just a thought.

Thanks for the imput. I will download all I can and start from scratch. It's a real learning curve but I see such beautiful photos that have been edited that its worth learning.

OK, here it is, I hope that it looks OK. I'm just learning how to blurr the background, this way.
Done with Photoshop Elements 9, and Topaz Labs Lens Effect.
