Sometimes installations simply fail because of a glitch caused by the system during the lengthy installation process; the coding of the software installed may not be actual culprit. This happened to me last year while installing a printer. After second attempt, everything worked fine.

First thing you should always try before wiping the drive is to reinstall Windows on top of itself, keeping your personal files intact. Good instructions here: https://www.intowindows.com/how-to-reinstall-windows-10-without-losing-data/ I also agree with others about keeping a version of Linux on a bootable thumb drive for emergencies. I use Mint. Linux can "see" all of the files on your Windows drive, and you can copy all of the data you want to keep onto that or another thumb drive before you wipe the Windows drive. Linux can read NTSF drives just fine too.

I doubt that this was a Corel-initiated issue. I have used their products for many, many years. Excellent - especially Paintshop Pro. I'm now using the latest version - still excellent, still my favourite. Always beware of freebies.

I bought some gear from Adorama last week. When it arrived, there was a free copy of several Corel products (Photo-Video-Art Suite). I decided to check it out and downloaded it with the Keys provided. I began with Paint Shop Pro X9. As soon as I opened it, my display went nuts. The display had an identical double image, one clear on top, the other was a hazy, greyed out version of the upper, but it partially covered the upper images. There were two cursors. I deleted the program with great difficulty (it was nearly impossible to click on things since many selections were impossible to differentiate and then deciding which of the two cursors were effective). That didn't solve the problem. I then ran REVO uninstalled which searches for left over strings concealed in files. Again, no help. Finally, a trip to the Geek Squad and a full wipe of the hard drive and re installation of Windows 10 got it resolved. I suggest you consider installing these products carefully before putting them on your computer (this was an HP laptop). I lost all of my files including a boat load of photos that had not yet been backed up. I'll never look at Corel again, free or otherwise.

SHAME on The Geek Squad for not taking the hard drive out of your computer and attaching it externally to another computer so as to copy your data files....photos and everything else.
Wipng your drive and installing Windows from scratch is THE LAST LAST LAST THING that should have been done, and not before doing a file transfer. Actually, a file transfer would have been the FIRST thing I'd have done.
You were screwed badly by Geek Squad. I'm an experienced professional computer tech and I can tell you that what you get from Geek Squad can range from good tech work down to absolute garbage advice and service. BEWARE OF GEEK SQUADS!

I have used PSP since it's days as a shareware program right up to PSP 19 Ultra. Never had a problem with updates or running the program. I also use After ShotPro 3, again, no problems. When a problem comes up with an install of software, I would first contact the provider that I received it from and if no luck there I would call the software company. BTW I think that over time I have spent less on Corel processing software than I would have on Adobe products. Years ago if you used Adobe products you would have spent much, much more on your post processing software.

No need for prayer.

After offending him, I gave Stan a break; rather I advised him to take one

My favorite too; I got a complete set 🍽 in the divorce 24 years ago, and I eat off them every day. Still good!

It gets lot worse than that. Some people write tomes to get a simple point across.

I had PSP X9, originally, and have upgraded to PSP 2018 and, just yesterday, upgraded to PSP 2019 Ultimate. I, also, have Aftershot Pro 3, Particleshop and Corel Painter 2019. I have all Corel's brushes and scripts, the free NIK plug-in and all their free downloads. I, even, own Wordperfect Professional, although I rarely use it, except for it's Paradox database management system. I have never had any issues installing or using any of Corel's products.

I am suspicious about someone saying that they use something and then mentions an issue that makes no sense. Corel has no monthly fees. Their products don't constantly pop up ads, except to highlight that there is an update available, when one is available.

I don't doubt that there was a problem installing a free, very old version of Paintshop. It could have been infected with a virus, wasn't compatible with the operating system or the computer had already had problems that should have been resolved, long before this Incident.

I agree that there are ways to get files off of an internal hard drive before the drive is reformatted. Sorry to hear that photos were lost. I just want to defend Corel products from someone who had an isolated problem and may, also, have a bias against something that doesn't say "PhotoShop." Again, sorry that someone had to go through all this trouble, just because of installing a free software package.

I'm running Paint Shop Pro X9, 2018 64 bit and 32bit on Windows 10. No problem installing or using. Never was asked for any fees.

I had an issue of a SD card which had gotten corrupted as well as my laptop running Windows Pro 7.
I used "System Restore" and someone from Ugly Hedgehog gave me the name of "Recuva" to recover my lost photos on the SD card.

It all worked out for me recovering lost photos plus some files I thought were gone. Give Recuva a try.

I have used various versions of Pant Shop Pro including the current 2018 Ultimate and have never had problems with any of them. I get them directly from Corel and also have never had to pay a monthly fee.

I also bought some gear from Adorama and received the same offer. I downloaded the software and installed it on a Windows 10 machine with no issues.

And I got the same bundle when I bought my Canon 5D Mk IV and downloaded the programs without any issues at all. I'm thinking the OP has a computer issue and not an Adorama or software problem. Now I find myself using PSP more and more. A terrific full featured processing program one doesn't have to rent on a monthly basis.
