It's not a done deal yet but the wife and I are thinking about driving to Nova Scotia, want to see the Bay of Fundy and Peggy's Cove, that's basically the only things on the menu right now, looking for advice, places to add to the itinerary, and general knowledge, Thanks in advance if I don't say it later, Bob.

We drove north through Canada and came back via the Digby/St John Ferry (very high tides). Should have done that both ways to NS. They have some pretty nice wineries on the Island, check them out for a break. Yarmouth is quaint, Halifax is interesting and historical, Cape Breton (Cape Breton Highlands NP) has very dramatic and scenic views and wildlife to include moose & bears. We're thinking of going back to NS and then driving/ferry to Newfoundland, really loved NS....Enjoy your trip Bob and post some photos

If you're interested in the ferry trip from Maine, here's the site I keep getting info from, good skinny on rates and schedules. We did the Ferry in 1998 from Bar Harbor, yeah, a while ago but its supposed to be coming back to Bar Harbor....right now I believe its running out of Portland.

You might want to sample the Nova Scotia single malt whiskey (can't legally call it Scotch), called Glen Breton. Excellent. Take home a bottle. You should be able to find it in the supermarkets; I did.

I suggest that you be sure to drive the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton. Great scenery. Blueberries in some of the small parking areas. Pleasant Bay is also of interest. Also, it might be of interest to see the Truro Bore - where the river runs backward with a "step" of water rushing upstream. You can't go wrong unless you try to cover too much ground each day.

But - if you want somewhere just as pretty without the long drive, you could plan a trip to downeast Maine (up the coast past Bar Harbor). To places where you are an hour from the nearest traffic light.
I agree that there is a lot to see in coastal Maine. I visited friends there in 2005 and they took me to some very scenic spots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157631966158254/.

On that same auto trip in 2005 I visited Halifax, NS: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157631915274197/. And then in 2013, while on a tour by Canada Rail, I visited Halifax again. And found a personal tour in a motorcycle sidecar down to Peggy's Cove (which was very enjoyable!): https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157635104740318/.

Raised in Nova Scotia until age 19. It is the 2nd most beautiful province in Canada . . . you can't run out of things to see unless you are blind in one eye and can't see out of the other! ENJOY!

Do the deal! Come up to Canada- the people are friendly, the culture is diverse and the Maritime Provinces are a photographer's wonderland. The food's good too! In most parts of Nova Scotia you just need to stand in one place and rotate in a 360 degree arc and just about everything is photogenic! We have stronger booze and beer! The Maritimes are the place to shoot unless you are not into quaint settings, lighthouses, old stuff, all kids of cool watercraft and seascapes. The government does not allow all kinds of billboards and clutter on the roads too! Your US bucks are worth about 30% more on a good day.

Come soon- before someone builds as "wall"!

If you have the eye, we've got the place!

No doubt travel agencies and chambers of commerce can provide lots of information about and area, however my experience has been that what they often send is brochures about the area's more "touristy" sights, but not necessarily good info for the best photography locations. Not saying such contacts are bad in any way, but sometimes its best to ask others that "are on the same page", namely other photographers.

Best whale watching- Brier Island. Take ferry from St John, NB, to Digby. Eat scallops! Go south over two small ferries to Brier Island and stay at motel on top of the hill. Think it's Brier Island Lodge. Take coast road from Digby to Yarmouth and see the lighthouse there. If you never plan to go back, take the time and go to Cape Breton Island . We didn't have the time and regret it. See Hopewell Rocks in NB. 50 ft tides in Bay of Fundy.
