I use Asus gaming motherboards but am not familiar with that motherboard. What I usually do is clean the mem slots first then put in 2 sticks and run a mem diagnostic. You can download one and build a bootable cd (or thumbdrive) with the test. Switch out 1 stick at a time and rerun the test which, will give you confidence they all work or identify the bad one(s). Then try all 4. If 4 still won't work, then you have a motherboard mem configuration issue or a bad mem slot. Is it possible you have a stick that is different from the others? Asus likes to use them in pairs for speed and if one is different you might have a problem. The user manual will tell you which mem slots to use for 2 sticks.

Yeppers one of the memory sticks is probably slower than the rest of them. The mother board probably does not like it for that reason. Newer computer motherboards seem to have a thing for needing all of the memory chips to be not only the same amount of ram but also the same frequency and speed as the other memory sticks are. Problem is that usually the memory sticks are not labeled properly for us to see that issue. that and the mother board also may want all of the memory sticks to be from the same manufacturer too.

Not to be snarky, but how do people learn without asking questions, and digging in?

They are the same, unless the manufacturer did something different, and put the wrong sticker on it. (2 of them, because I sent the first one that I thought was the issue back, and they sent me a replacement, all have the exact same part number and specs)

It's not. Crucial is willing to help me make it right. I may ask them to see if this is an option. I'm just not sure since the manual said the max was 32 gb, 4x8. May choke on 2 16's, but maybe not.

Thanks Jim,
How would I do this?

I was referring to the wattage. 850 is plenty good. If it were low, say 500 or less it could have been a factor.

Here's a couple more things you could try.

Reset BIOS to default and/or failsafe default. It should be in the options. Alternatively you can pull the CMOS batter for a couple minutes. Unplug the PC if you do this.

If the above doesn't work I would try setting the RAM speeds manually in BIOS. It'll probably be set on AUTO, select that to see a drop-down and select the option that matches your RAM specs.

If you change the RAM settings and can't boot, pull the CMOS battery to reset it to default.

It ISN'T power supply. A stick of ddr3 typically draws 2 to 3 watts. The computer is at idle and power draw will go up considerably with use. This is a motherboard problem, compatibility with this memory, or BIOS setting. If a BIOS update is available, it might cure the problem. But I recommend contacting the motherboard manufacturer. If you want to test the memory, download Memtest to a flash drive and run it. I doubt that it would find anything since you have rotated memory sticks. Just my opinion!

If the memtest doesn't show any issues, then I'll try the audit program. Thanks!
I'd do the audit first to check the memory settings. It's quick, free, and you want to verify the settings before running memtest. Memtest will run for hours.

When you use 3 sticks, is it showing 24 gigs or 16. If it shows 16, the second pair is not working, even if it fires up with 3 sticks.

believe it or not 24... I'm tempted to just use 24 and be happy. Crucial said they would refund me for the one stick if I want.

24 is still plenty for Photoshop, but I admit, I get pretty creative with my edits and sometimes can bog 16gb down if I'm not careful.

Only got the 32, because I could afford it at the time. You only live once.
Thanks

Dd you ever get into the BIOS to review the memory configuration settings? Also, what does tech support from your MB manufacturer say?

Not sure but I think that once you open and insert memory boards that they are un-returnable. You might be able to send them back for testing to see if they are good but would you want to boards that had already been used?
That is why I stated to verify before because there are companies that will return. And, sure, back in days when RAM was expensive used to buy & sell used RAM all the time. When was last time you heard of a stick going bad?

Plus you buy repackaged items all the time - you just don't know it. Many returns are checked, then repackaged in many industries.

I have seen that happen back when I was an electronics engineer. Especially in civilian electronics. I have a Lap top that is having a similar problem. I have been told the mother board was not made to use more than 3 gig ram in the laptop and I have been told all of the chips have to be exactly the same to upgrade. The lap top has 2 chips in it now one a 2gig and the other a 1 gig. Tried adding a 4 by itself and it did not work and i tried adding a 2 and that did not work. My lap top chips also have to have the same voltage value as the chips made for it come in 2 different voltage ratings. That may be your problem. Check to see if one of the chips you have has a different voltage rating and contact the motherboard manufacturer to see if they have an answer. I was told by a tech rep that my laptop may not have been made to accept an upgrade in ram.
