We had viewed images of a few Zebra Swallowtails several times, but our first sighting of one was while flower shopping in Williamsburg about a month ago. We had just placed several lantana plants in our shopping basket and suddenly this beautiful butterfly lands on one of the lantanas within a few inches of our hands and began nectaring and we could hardly believe our eyes---so beautiful! Several weeks passed and while working with the flowers in our yard an unusual butterfly flew by fairly low to the ground and my first thought was that it was a dragonfly, but when it landed ion our butterfly bush it became apparent that this was our first and so far only Zebra that we have observed at our home! Last season we had planted two of their host trees, bare rooted Pawpaws, but they never budded out. After the recent sighting, we located a nursey about 130 miles from our home and purchased some very nice potted trees of very good quality and sure hope that they live.
