I live in NV and a neighbor of mine tried to use there's at Zion and they charged them $65, so they turned around and left the park, I was under the idea that these passes are still valid and permit free entrance to parks, if anyone has recently went to Grand Canyon or Zion, please comment on this as to if its free or charged a fee with the older card.
thank you everyone for your comments

Keep in mind that there are different types of passes and perhaps we don't know exactly which one someone tried to use. I've had my pass for several years and had to pull it out to see that it was indeed a Senior Pass. The different types are on the gov't site. I know some of us have checked.

It is a "Lifetime" pass and is good for the lifetime of the person it was originally issued to, good in all US National Parks as well as US National Monuments.

I'm a disabled veteran and we also get a free national park pass.
You may want to check details at some of the national parks.
Here is why I say that. We went to Mount Rushmore, We got in for free
But you have to pay to park. Couldn't find parking near park and
then being disabled I needed something nearby. A company other
than the national park service owns the rights to the parking area
guess this is so park doesn't have the upkeep.
Showed them my military ID with 100% disabled, Disabled plates on car,
paid $22.00 and was put in the bottom floor of the parking area. No
handicap parking spots for wheelchair access, have to take elevators to
3rd floor where the park is. When we get to the top floor there are at
least a dozen handicap parking spots open.
Sure got into the national park for free!

Hi gunner, I have had my golden age pass for at least 15 years and have yet to be told it is not valid. As far as i know, that pass (which i paid $10 for,) is good for LIFE. But do not give it to anyone else to use. It will be confiscated and you will lose it.
Rich...

P.S. I read another answer about parking...I have learned that if it is a privately owned parking lot, you have to pay but you get in a handicap parking spot. If the lot is metered or municipal, you don't have to pay for parking at all as long as you display your handicap placard or have it on your license plate. This is in four states that i know of, Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

It's still good and will be for your life time. Have one myself and use it all the time, including Yellowstone.

"Lifetime Admission" seems to say it all.

The Golden Age Pass is only good in NATIONAL parks, not state parks...you have to pay to get into state parks.

We have recently returned from a trip to Arizona, Utah, etc....and used my Golden Age passport at both Zion and Bryce Canyons in Utah as well as Walnut Canyon in AZ. There were absolutely NO issues at any of the sites. The ranger at Walnut Canyon did ask for my DL for ID, but the others just waved us through as I held up my Passport card. I did notice the posted signs that had either a $30 or $35 per car admission fee for everyone else.

This trip was in April, of this (2018) year, so that's fairly current. There had been an earlier proposal to charge much higher admission fees, but the outcry about that seemed to make the administration have a change of heart. My view is that a fee in the $65 range would mean that a LOT of people of limited means would not be able to appreciate the amazing sights in these wonderous places...
We have recently returned from a trip to Arizona, ... (show quote)

I used mine at Rocky Mountain N.P. last week with no problem.

I used my old ($10) passport at Zion in June with no trouble. The passport is the same as it's ever been it just costs more now--still a great deal. I actually bought a second $10 one the day before the price changed.

According to the gov't website, the pass is exactly the same except it hasn't been issued since Jan 2007. It has been replaced.

If I were you I'd still have it replaced with the new pass. I'm sure they will replace it for free or a small admin fee of $10 or something like that.

I think all who have used their passes and responded have verified they are still valid, but here is some info from the NPS website which states the same.

Is the Golden Age Pass still valid?

The Golden Age Passport will remain VALID throughout the lifetime of the holder. If the pass holder wishes to upgrade to the Interagency Senior Pass, they may do so in person at any Federal Recreation Area. The cost to upgrade is $10.00 from a plastic Golden Age Passport or FREE from a paper Golden Age Passport.Sep 1, 2017
Lifetime Passes - Zion National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

What is a Golden Age Passport?

Golden Age Passport was a pass issued by the National Park Service until January 1, 2007. The Senior Pass is a lifetime entrance pass to United States national parks for those 62 years and older. The Senior Pass REPLACES the Golden Age Passport. This is a lifetime pass for US citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an entrance or standard amenity fee.

Please note that the price of the lifetime Senior Pass increased to $80 on August 28, 2017. It is for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. It may be obtained in person at a federal recreation site or through the mail using the application form.

The "Access Pass" is different than the "Golden Age Access Pass". It is for persons with a permanent disability.

The Access Pass is available free of charge at any National Park fee area. To obtain the pass through the Internet please visit America The Beautiful - The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass website. It is a free, lifetime pass - available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States that have been medically determined to have a permanent disability (does not have to be a 100% disability) - that provides admittance to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies.

Passes for Veterans

While in a park, active duty members of the military and their dependents can pick up a free annual pass to all national parks. Disabled veterans can get a free lifetime pass. The passes provide free entrance to more than 2,000 national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and other federal recreational areas.

Here is the link to the NPS webpage for current types of passes.

Hope that helps.
