We have centipedes close to a foot long in parts of Texas (including where I live). They are amazing animals, but I'm glad they are relatively rare---at least the big ones. The "funny" thing about large centipedes is that they can get you from both ends. However, they are very colorful. Just don't let one wrap around your ankle. Of course, all they likely want from us is to escape.

This is a male, and he is is on the hunt for a girl friend.
Tarantulas will NOT jump and bite you. They just want to be left alone. They can barely see beyond their legs, and as long as you are not within their legspan they will hardly know you are there.

You grab a camera while I would be looking for my flame thrower or maybe nuke it from orbit just to be sure. I’m in Va and a Wolf spider is about the biggest thing I have to put up with. Great pics though.

Cannot understand why you should wish to kill it.

The only real 'danger' from tarantulas is they can throw small hairs from their legs into your eyes if you are very close and they perceive you as a threat. Other than that they are rather docile and even intelligent. Two years ago my wife and I were on a walk in the early evening and one was crossing the street. I stopped to insure that a car didn't run over it. The tarantula stopped, and then proceeded when I did not make a threatening move. Additionally, it's path across the street was straight, he knew where he was going.

Please don't kill them.
Chuck
