I have a D7000. When I travel I carry one lens, an Nikon 18-300 VR. When traveling I don't want to carry a bunch of lens. It doesn't matter where I travel. Limited space and weight. In your case the Nikon 70-300 VR and the Sigma 17-70 C would do you fine.

I would take the 18-200 and be done with it.

I now own:

Nikon 35mm prime
Nikon 70-300 VR
Sigma 17-70 C

And, just given to me: Nikon 18-200 VR

So for a 6 week vacation, which of two these three would you carry: 17-70, 18-200 or 79-300

The 18-200mm will give you a very good spread.

I would take the 18-200mm and not have to worry about changing lenses. It is a great lens, very versatile, covers a wide range, and is pretty easy to travel with. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

"The 18-200. On vacation you want to enjoy yourself, not have to screw around with lenses."

I second this.

I would leave them all home and get a Tamron 18-400. It will cover any situation you find yourself in.

You’ll mostly use the 17-70.

But if your interests and travels include wildlife you’ll want the 70-300.

All of them. Each of the three have different ranges for reasons. The new lens duplicates coverage but still offers it's own range. Six weeks of down under might make you regret leaving any of them behind. This amounts to "one more lens in the bag" and shouldn't be too much extra weight. One of the worst vacation feelings is "Why didn't I bring . . . " and you fill in the blank with a lens, or a child. Take 'em all!

Does the 6 weeks include the weekends
at both the beginning and the end ? I'm
on a 5 week vacation, but mine runs from
midweek to midweek so I brought only a
kit zoom and that has proven to be really
my best decision. Here's some result:
