Folks on the left love to say that the right is not only intolerant but that they are disrespectful bullies... Well we all saw the photos and video of the Chick-fil-A appreciation day, all seemed peaceful and respectful, I saw no printed signs disrespecting anybody nor did I see any images of hate speech... Now comes along the Kiss In and we see images such as this homeless man accosted by Kiss in Protesters.. They call the Tea Party terrorists and they excuse actions such as this by liberal activists.

I'm "evolving" to the opinion that these people are sadly lacking in self-respect. Rather than respect themselves and carry on their life as best as possible, they'd rather be jealous of, and blame their disappointments on others: big (successful) business, millionaires and billionaires (successful).
But more than anything, I sense jealousy from the left. Jealousy is ugly, and most often, adverse to success. "If I can't have it, then you shouldn't have it either"...sad.

I found the Chick-A-Fil controversy interesting and telling, by what exactly started this whole thing, and the reaction to it.

"On July 16, an online Southern Baptist publication quoted Dan Cathy, whose family owns the Chick-fil-A fast-food chain, saying he endorses “the biblical definition of the family unit.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/04/us/taking-sides-on-chick-fil-a-is-a-temptation-few-can-resist.html

This was one mans opinion who owned a business. He didn't say gays were unwelcome, he is not being accused of discriminating against anybody... however he is being castigated over stating his personal beliefs, and an now attempts to destroy his company is being attempted. Mayor of Boston has said Chick-A-Fil won't be allowed to open stores in his city.

I find the reaction intolerant and discriminatory. It is politics- dirty politics- and from which side???

I personally don't care about any of this, No Chick-A-Fil anywhere near me, and I believe troubles in our world do not come from people who love each other, but rather from those who hate each other- no matter what the mix is. But from which direction is the hate in this issue?

You keep stirring the pot by stereotyping and dividing people into groups. Yes, we all saw the video but apparently you saw a "I am a liberal" tee shirt or bumper sticker on the man's chest or car....Something that led you to believe that this man was a "hated and dreaded liberal." Get off it blue eyes. Tea Partiers or Occupy Wall streeters - we are ALL in this together we are ALL Americans - we either come together as a PEOPLE or this country will perish..........I am liberal in thinking I am conservative in spending I am many things I am complex I am simple - I am a human being. I am not Christian and still I would say to you Blue eyes - "if you are without sin then cast the first stone."

"Blue eyes" is a racist comment meant to be derogatory - which supports all of Blurry Eyes (Blurryeyed) and our assertions.

I am agnostic so the bible quote only means a little bit more ot me maybe than it does to you... Now, what they did to that poor man was demeaning and degrading, and I would suggest that it is very common for the left to behave this way as they feel morally superior to any on the right... and many on the left have a special animosity to any who hold religious beliefs... The sight of a man reading a bible during their protest was far too much for these activists to cope with... You saw the attack on the bible and the activist expressing his hatred for the book and for religion... this is becoming far to common on the left.

Yes. It was uncalled for and then again it was not unexpected given the situation either.

These were kids - (relatively speaking) who were caught up in the energy and fervor or the moment. They saw a target or some did and proceeded to heckle and argue (at least one person did - I only saw one person - did you see more?). This is nothing more than ordinary "school yard bullying." But you sir see the "devil" where I see young people acting poorly. You see some expression of the "left" the "liberal" acting morally superior and then from this one incident you conclude that it is "very common for the left to behave this way as they feel morally superior to any on the right... and many on the left have a special animosity to any who hold religious beliefs..."

Again sir, I see one person heckling the bible reading guy and you see a vast conspiracy..........I see one angry young man trying to look good for his buddies.....you see the face of "the morally superior left."

I see one man - you - continuing to preach your gospel of "hey look at the left they are the bad guys." A gospel such as this Sir, can only serve to divide us all.

I read other sites and to be honest there is an overwhelming amount of disrespect shown from both sides in comment sections on any article that is political in nature, but the common theme I see coming from the left is the one that I eluded to here, moral superiority, hatred for religion, and the belief that the right is somehow educationally and mentally challenged.

Honestly UHH is A-typical in that more care is given to putting forward a respectful argument, I do not find the actions shown in that video to be an anomaly and I do not excuse those "kids" because of their age, they are young adults and any person capable of true compassion would have never engaged in such behavior... IMO it was their belief in their own moral righteousness that compelled them to behave in that manner.

I appreciate your willingness to take an even tone - and perhaps to recognize your own anger (when it arises) and choose not to express it. That is a mark of maturity - one that this young man was not capable of expressing at least within the context of the rally. I would like to think that under less combustible circumstances that same young man would, in fact, behave more appropriately. I could be wrong - he could simply be a jerk of indeterminate political stripe - an independent jerk.

However, true compassion draws no lines - no boundaries. True compassion expresses a unity with all people regardless of their beliefs and expression thereof. True compassion does not say "there but for the grace of god go i." True compassion simply says: "there go i."

Finally sir, one could as easily question the judgment, motivation and intent of the man with the bible coming down to attend a rally which was sure to be populated by many young and activist GLBT folk. Some such as myself would at least wonder if he was not hoping to elicit just such a response and then could as others have done " "innocently" blame the poor behavior upon some ideological position.

see how ugly those Gays are! They have no morals no compassion. They mercilessly attack this poor innocent man who was doing nothing to incite them - just sitting in the middle of a GLBT rally quitely waving a red .....err i mean quietly reading a bible.

The man was homeless and it is probably certain that he could have found a different corner... I know that the video clip that we saw was a small piece of a larger time frame so there is no telling what may or may not have happened prior to the clip... but what I saw was an elderly man reading his bible, it was obvious that he was being ridiculed by more than just the one man in the crowd, and I find that chalk writing to be just as disturbing... I am just saying as much as I hear about the intolerance of the Tea Party and of the Right in general, I never see displays such as this coming from those people... I know that many like to point back to townhall meetings where the Tea Party voiced their opinion with overwhelming passion and directness, but to me that was somewhat appropriate as they were doing so directly to their representatives in congress, in many cases their passion was overwhelming and ineffective but at least it was directed at the right people... I don't see why the Tea Party is scorned for their actions yet the OWS movement is celebrated for theirs when they were disruptive to city business districts, attacked conservative meetings as they did in DC... I would think that yelling at a congressman is much more appropriate than attacking a group of seniors as they leave a meeting in DC...

What I really feel is that yes it has all gone to far, but people from both sides need to step back and understand that they are a big part the problem, and that the left hates as much if not more so than does the right.... but that is not to excuse the right, all one would have to do is go to a right leaning site and read the posted comments to see that they too are just as bad at being disrespectful.

Hello again. Thanks, that background information is important and helps get a bigger picture.

Yes, I seriously doubt you would see this kind of behavior from members of the Tea Party as I would think there would not be very many young GLBTQ folk claiming active allegiance to the Tea Party.
And if they did and they acted that rudely and obnoxiously their parents would have grounded them!

But you could expect to see similar behaviors from say a Westboro Church protest at the funeral of a solider and from both sides of the right/left. You would, I know, feel strongly about people holding up signs thanking God for killing your son because America does not condemn homosexuality. That's a very strong statement - very hateful - angry - violent - foolish and needless.

Many GLBTQ folk suffer a great deal - many of them suffer needlessly too from similar christian teachings that while saying: love the sinner hate the sin - in practice all too easily becomes - hate the sin - hate the sinner.

But you and i have no quarrel here that i see. Yes, the TP folk have been mostly ridiculed I'd say by the media whereas OWS in the end
and it was only at the end, became the darlings of the hip press. Personally I was hoping that this summer we would continue to see more OWS events of even greater magnitude because regardless of how civil or appropriate those protests were they were exactly what we need to keep the focus on where it needs to be!

And I agree that one place our attention needs to be is on finding ways to unite. From both sides - both the far right and far left and the vast numbers of US in between. As long as We, the people continue to bicker and dicker over pieces of paper (BC/tax returns) and other assorted concocted and confabulated "NEWS" and basically act like like little kids - "my daddy can beat up your daddy" - can we realistically expect politicians to be adults and not enjoin in the same inanity and insanity?

What kinda pics you like to take?

Macro mostly, but I have been wanting to get out and do some landscape... kinda flat and boring where I am unless you get up really early and to catch some sunrises or maybe a few shots of birds at the beaches...

Why can't he read his bible at a lgbt rally? When the chik fil a supporters had their day, the gay community set up a protest across the street. Yet the supporters tolerated their presence there, although being heckled by the protestors. No one acted out violently toward the protestors. And while we're here, why couldn't the gay communiity have a support like the supporters of chik fil a did? Why did they have to have a "kiss in", an act they knew the majority of people would find offensive? As a heterosexual I don't go into public and make out to show I'm straight. I believe that being gay is a sexual preference choice, and as a sexual preference should remain a private act. It should not be practiced and paraded in public view, anymore than a man and woman should have sex in public. That is the problem with modern society, we have lost our morals, and our sense of modesty.
