I loke to do a little bit of food photography, but I can't use fake ingredients so I have to do a quick shot before we eat, what do you think of this one?
Make your own spicy shrimp lettuce wraps, with a spicy mango salad.
I like the composition, but I think if the “shrimp” plate was moved slightly left and up it might be better.
The shrimp could probably stand to be sharper, at least to me as it’s the main ingredient.
It does look absolutely delicious so I think your goal was largely met.
My first impression is it needs to "pop" more. There needs to be a little more light, vibrance, and contrast to boost the colors. The focus does need to be very sharp. Maybe a higher f added with more light would make the difference plus a little more vibrance in PP.
The presentation of the shrimp is very nice. I do agree with previous statements, though, that it needs a bit of "pop" and perhaps needs to be lighter. I enlarged the downloaded image to where I got only part of the shrimp plate, and it was quite nice. It made me think that including the partial bowl in the shot takes away from the shrimp plate. If you want to include the salad with the shrimp, they should probably be on the same plate.
Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions, I'll take all into consideration the next time I try this. The photograph was taken by indirect late afternoon window light, and using a polarizing filter.
The next food shot will be tried with better lighting.

Nicely done, Dennis, on the detail and color balance.
Well first of all it makes me hungry and that proves that the photo is appetizing. That is probably the most important criteria when photographing food. The lighting is even and gorgeous. Nice detail .. I feel like I'm there .. heck .. I wish I was there. The only thing I would like to play with is the crop. I might like to try a square crop with the left side of the frame covering a little more of the plate. Bring that mint right into the corner and then a little more room at the top to include more of the bowl. That's purely subjective though. My view of it might be a little more symmetrical. But that's just me.
Thanks for commenting, Sandra, I'll keep that in mind on the next food shot.
