I can say, with confidence, that a Sunpak 6060XL is not a good tripod.

Just curious, what exactly do you not like or find wrong with the Sunpak 6060XL Tripod? I am sure there are higher priced and better quality Tripods, if someone want to spend $$$$$, but for a casual Photographer who does not require a Tripod it seems to fit MY needs.
Thanks for your input and opinion on the Sunpak 6060XL Tripod.

Depends on how many “affordable” ones have already been discarded.

The RRS Versa Series 3 is a great tripod, but I think the Series 2 is more practical.

Unless you're using a 8x10 view camera or something else.

I too think the 2 Series is more practical, unless you predominantly use long lenses. Bought the TVC-24L MK 2 a couple months ago. Have used it a lot since than and could not be happier. Great tripod, light, sturdy, vibration dissipates quickly and the extra length pays dividends on slopes and for Astro photography. Expensive, but well worth it!

Not stable.

Difficult to level.

Head cannot be replaced.

Not good for low shooting.

Known to fall apart (read some reviews).

I think to suggest a tripod at a cost of over $1000 without asking some questions about the shooter and his gear is a bit presumptious.

Well, I suppose without knowing about the photographer, ANY suggestion is a bit presumptuous. But hey, what can one do? People make a simple comment like “I need a good tripod”, nothing wrong with offering a suggestion as to one that is considered good.

Some of us learn at different rates. Some of us never learn. I'm somewhere in between.

Same thing I presumed.

Well, I presumed that if the OP didn’t like my opinion then he could easily ignore it and I would not be offended because, presumably, I’d never know it was ignored. Now that I think about it, I’m a presumptuous cad! Would self-flagellation be an adequate penance?

I was referred to B&H through the VA and was told they had good knowledgeable salesmen. After spending thousands and much research and conversing, turns out the salesmen haven't even seen what they've been selling me. Much less touched.

Maybe you would be happier in a smaller shop where they have personally seen or touched everything.

Read and watch, all the reviews you can find. Get taller than you need, so it's there when you need the height. Pro Media Gear, RRS and Gitzo, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely! When I was a salesman I knew everything about every product, never had a customer regret buying. Drove to the other side of the island to the only shop, the store was practically empty. Like a couple cameras and a few lenses and a pile of generic monopods. The kind they give away with purchases.

Besides learning about the many choices it is, it good to have a specific need or use. Otherwise we are just collectors! Good luck!
