possibly when in the bag one of the buttons was continuously being pressed and drained the battery. Happened to me once also.

unfortunately, that isn't (all) what happened... when i leave it on now, it never goes to sleep. I've tried changing the timer value & that doesn't help. But I haven't left it on for a really long time -- guess I should do that just to check if there really isn't a limit any more.

welcome, dubblenn! the camera, when working properly, is very clever & goes into sleep/standby after 6s (according to my setting in c2.) i had gotten used to not worrying about turning off the camera after every use, which is a pain when you need to grab it to take a quick shot. I also have had various levers flicked to another position when sticking the camera into its bag, or pulling it out (like the above mentioned lock focus lever.) So not having to worry about the on-off switch was a pleasure. (and I now have to decide if that pleasure is worth $200+ to fix.)
welcome, dubblenn! the camera, when working prope... (show quote)

According to the manual, c2 turns off the exposure meter to "reduce battery drain". On my camera it does turn off the meter display but not the top LCD display, which will drain the battery. I always considered this normal behavior but I will be interested in Nikon's response. Did they really give you a quote of $200 to fix this "problem"?

I think the 200 is a base figure. I haven't called yet to find out more detailed information.
