Just thinking:
If third party batteries are as good as UHHoggers confirm, do you think (without being accused of heresy) that name brand camera manufacturers might just subcontract the manufacture and labeling of batteries for them to sell as brand name batteries??
And if brand name manufacturers do so, do you think there is any quality control difference between the off-brand and name- brand batteries?
Just thinking.
Do yourself a favor stay with OEM batteries aftermarket batteries are cheaper but not better you have a nice camera D500 pay the price. my 2 cents Mike
Hi
I have had the d500 for some time, I have a couple of third party batteries & yes they work fine, BUT they do not last as long as the genuine Nikon battery. I consider them good as an emergency battery to have in my bag/pocket. Also the Lion-01 should work but I believe there is a communication issue with the battery firmware and camera so that the camera sees less battery capacity than there actually is.
Good luck - great camera.

YES, there is a difference in quality, and quality control between off-brand and name-brand batteries.
I am sure there are after market batteries that are good, and less expensive. So I appreciate hearing ideas from photo colleagues. My point was my bad experience with promaster. Not just batteries, everything. And ..... I am also concerned with voided warranties of the camera or lens manufacturer.
You just spent $2000 on the camera, don't skimp on a battery. Shot 500+ images at a recent air show with my D7200 and battery like showed over 60% with the Nikon EN-EL15.

I agree with Mike. Get a brand name battery of the manufacturer. Quality control, warranties, etc are a factor to consider. Cheaper batts have shorter life, so there is no long-term advantage. When I got my D500 I bought an extra Nikon batt for $45.00 and it will probably last longer than me. And it won't leak like the Promaster in my Leica.
No there are no third party batteries. You can however get used 15a batteries for dirt cheap. I recently bought two for $40.00 from adorama both showed new in camera.
