one of the goofy facts of North Texas weather. Today we have a "cold" front, high temperature is about 104F with north wind. Tomorrow high temp around only 99F. Guess I need to check out my heavy coat.

I thought the rule, at least in some parts of Texas, is that fur is never out of season. (Per my brother in law, who lives near Denton.) ;-)

Several years ago a very well respected weather man in the Dallas area named Harold Taft gave the weather for a warm day in August when we reached a temperature of 108 for the day but with his wonderful sense of humor reported that with the breeze we had that day our wind chill was 104.

So I get a call from my friend in Hamilton, Texas . She is is a non stopper, tells me for years before the weather people kept records on highs and lows heat day, it seems that temperatures over 105 is pretty normal for Texas. It hit 117 the other day here or at least on my thermometer , I didn’t take it as normal, point is, is this global warming?

When I lived in Southern California, the weather people would come on the TV and say, "everybody loves the weather in San Diego", "EVERYBODY loves the weather in San Diego". What they failed to mention was that the insects, vermin and reptiles love it also. I heard it said that any house over four years old will have termites. I can attest to that. I had to have my house tented one time and termites eradicated another time and termite damage repaired.

I guess that fur must have gotten worn or moths got to it.
The only fur my friend sees in Texas now days is Re fur.
Nothing like a good repair job

I'm in Dallas but we don't have anything to moan about.

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law are moving into a new house today in Phoenix. Predicted temp....117.

Lots of places with hot weather right now. Photo class outing for tomorrow was canceled due to a severe heat advisory. Supposed to be over 100 all week. Corona, CA.

We have lived in the D/FW area since 1975 and I clearly remember Harold, a very knowledgable man with a great sense of humor. I still use his guidance the the mesquites don't bud out until after the last freeze when I plant tender things or set plants back outside for the warm weather.

Harold's son, Harold Jr., worked for the Civil Defense Dept. of the City of Dallas. I had the occasion to speak to him a couple of times. I guess his Dad would call him and tell him a tornado was coming and Harold Jr. would set off the sirens.
