Tonic for a dull, dull drive...
Every month I drive to north Arkansas to see my Dad and help around the house. I hate that drive- spending nine hours on my butt- twice. To kill time- that is, to find some benefit for the time committed- I photograph what I can... Tonight, just south of Little Rock, was a wonderful deluge and lightning display. Trying to catch lightning in the act is a challenge but, with oldies music - loud- and 'windshield wipers slapping time' a sorta pattern to the lightning flashes might be suggested. In this instance, Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" gave the rhythm but, allowance must be made for the windshield wipers. Thus, a shot was made (1/6 @ f/8, ISO 360) for every "grunt" sound- adjusted for wiper sweep- and a double shot at, " Yeah, We're Hap, Hap, Pee". Obviously there really wasn't any method.... but this is what I got...

That is striking (no pun intended) shot..nice one.
fuminous, I should think that seeing your Dad would be the benefit and the photography the added bonus. What a great photograph. Right place at just the right time equipt with the tools to take advantage of the situation.

Great looking image and cure for boredom.
Oh, I like seeing my dad, Bob- it's the drive I hate; 496 miles from my door to his with only cotton, corn, soybeans, rice, corn, cotton, rice, soybeans, rice, corn, cotton, cotton, rice.... in between. Admittedly, in ten years, I've managed, what I think to be, a few cool shots along the way. Thanks for the encouraging words, Bob; much appreciated!!

After while, even I get tired of my bad singing, Karin, and must find something else to do... though, I'll admit my arm is this morning a little stiff from "one handing" that camera for an hour or so. Thanks for your kind comment Karin!!

Great shot! Really captures the lightning. Only thing is I hope you had pulled off the road before you took it,not while you were driving. Over here that would incur 12 months suspension plus $500 fine

I like it too...great shot, and i'm sure you find many other opportunities for shots on your way to your dad's
home and back. you are a kind and caring son to be so dedicated to helping him out.
Looks like I'd better stay out of New Zealand! Actually, NZ causes me to sneeze my head off and persists until I leave... don't know what allergy it might be... but, if ever there again, I'll surely not drive, sneeze and take photos all at the same time!! Thanks for commenting George!!

Honestly, over the years, I've made several shots along the way that I like very much. Also, because of the trip, have sampled quite a few tamale, chicken, BBQ, catfish and such joints along the way, drank beer and met nice folk in Natchez, Vicksburg, Utica, Natchitoches, and Greenville, hung out in "Blues Joints" along the the "Blues Trail", saw the Teddy Roosevelt's "Teddy Bear", walked several plantations, peed in the "River", conversed (in my head) with Bonnie & Clyde at their shoot-out site (Clyde held a ham sandwich) and stood on- and threw something off- the "Tallahatchie Bridge" ... so, it's a continuing adventure.... Thanks for the kind words Merrytexan!- much appreciated...
