Sigma introduced a new "Art" version of their 70mm f/2.8 macro lens in February.

Haven't heard of any other being introduced, but Sigma has had a very large instant rebate discount on their 105mm macro for a month or two, which might suggest they are trying to clear that model off the shelves in advance of another announcement.

I do not take pictures of bugs or flowers.
I haven't reached that level of boredom.
I truly hope I never do.
But, All these shots, were taken with the Tamron G2 90mm macro lens.
As far as I know, it is their newest model.

Posting this from my phone. I got the new Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 macro lens in Sony E-mount (it comes also in other mounts) . The lens is stunning, amazing sharpnes, clarity and IQ. My review with two shots, a dragonfly and a small fly are posted in my review for this lens on Amazon and B&H photo websites online. When I got back to my computer ,I will post some of my first shots here. I have used excellent macro lenses from Nikon,Canon, and Sony im my pro career of forty years an this new Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 is perhaps the best I ever used. It is just that good. CHEERS

Shots made with Sony A7RIII and A7III using my new Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 macro lens: (my review from Amazon & B&H.

By gerald w.
I am a pro of over 40 years in the business. I have used excellent macro lenses from Nikon, Canon and Sony. I got this lens just a few days ago and have been test shooting it with both my Sony A7RIII and A7III and am blown away by its sharpness and overall image quality. It is solidly built, yet lightweight. Easy to focus in autofocus or manual focus. Focus limiting settings on this lens make quick work of rapid micro autofocusing of moving small subjects . Just a complete pleasure to use. The images are stunning. It is all I could have hoped for at an incredible price. True ART lens IQ. Highly recommend this in whatever your camera mount is. Cheers

Review what many, especially semi-pro to pro photographers, say about macro lenses: They say almost all reputable macro lenses are really good. Takes away the psychological pressure that a newer lens will improve one's photography.

Yes most pro quality macro lenses do a good job . But having used some of the best macro lenses of three brands, Nikon, Canon and Sony, I have the actually real-world experience to test ,review and compare this new Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 macro. Quote from Adorama camera: "Stunning resolution and clarity for a breathtaking visual experience a razor-sharp macro lens joins the Art line" . This is the rare case where the hype was absolutely proven by me in field tests.

You can choose to dismiss this as "psychological pressure of a newer lens". I will laugh at that, and continue to enjoy and recommend this superb macro, one of the best ever at 1:1. Do your own real-world testing and prove otherwise, if you can, and not just negatively comment on a lens you have never tried. .
Cheers

A different point of view is Ken Rockwell's article on sharpness. I know he is controversial to some. On the other hand, "whatever floats your boat," do it. We are lucky that in our country we have choices.

Photographers worldwide have many excellent choices, not just in this country. More camera gear from all brands, is sold in the rest of the world, than just in the US. And Ken Rockwell has no issues with the quality of this new Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 Macro lens. Cheers

Tom nice photos. But I have to disagree with you. I find photographing nature in all its amazing splendor at the macro level is everything but NOT boredom. I find macro shots of inanimate objects no equal challenge to the capture of often moving, fleeting subjects in challenging weather and light conditions. I do make macro shots of wedding details as part of my coverage, but I still prefer the challenges and artistic fulfillment of shooting outdoors. I dont think my "bug" photos posted here look like boredom. lol Cheers

Since I have logged onto this site, I have seen more pictures of bugs, birds, and flowers than I ever thought existed.
To the point of ad nausem. I just ignore them now, unless I am tricked by the caption.
In the beginning of my journey as a photographer. I shot a lot of wildlife. I still do, but not exclusively. I have taken some great shots of Bald Eagles. As a matter of fact, I may go to the Denver Arsenal today, and see if I can get some shots of the buffalo herd there.
So I understand trying to shot moving objects.
I have expanded my areas of interest. Landscapes, close up photography. Anything that catchs my eye.
I am loathe to admit this but, I have taken a picture of a flower or two, I have grown.
If I get the chance to shoot a dragon fly, I will take it.
But to activley chase a bug, nope.
If that is what flips your switch cool.
It would be a very boring world if we all thought the same.

Shooting ALL of nature, BIF, small creatures, landscapes etc, all of it is what still flips my switch and has for over four decades of taking photos. Cheers
