Alan Keyes isn't an "Uncle Tom" (I'm sorry this term is in you rlexicon; it's not inmine); Keyes is just wrong. I do agree that much of the deep hatred against the President is based on race. Why else would something like 20% of the country believe the President is a Muslim? We are only fifty years past the civil rights legislation in the 60's. In the fifties the nation had segregated schools, segregated water fountains, segregated bathrooms. Racism does not die easily.

People who think that the president has muslim beliefs or sympathizes with the Muslim religion do so because of his early childhood being spent in a Muslim country and being raised by his muslim stepfather, who famously introduced him to dog meat, he spent some of his most formative years growing up in a Muslim household... It is not just about being racists...
quote=Kalskag2 quote=harryd Look up Alan Keyes o... (show quote)

The fact is that he is a Christian and has been so for any number of years. It is ironic that some Christians, who think that anyone who is not a Christian will go straight to hell, and consistently talk about the need to save the souls of non-Christians, refuse to accept the fact that a black man with a Muslim sounding name can become a Christian. How sad.

The President has been in office for almost 4 years. We know who he is.

Some like his policies some don't. He has been veted.

This nonsense and garbage about his birthplace and college transcripts is an attempt to deligetimize his right to be in office. I strongly believe it is an expression of not only latent but blatant racism and bigotry. Something I want to believe is not as prevalent as these people are expressing. To me, it is as if the Klan is burning a cross on the lawn of the White House.

You know sarg, the only person I have EVER seen use the term racist, or even refer to the race of President Obama on this site is you. You sir, are the only bigot on here.

It is not an attempt to "delegitimitize" the president. It is about issues that have arisen that have never been answered properly. We do NOT know who the president is, I for one had never heard of him prior to the 2008 election. Then there are the facts (Don't you hate them facts?) that he does not like to cover his heart during the Pledge. The fact he was raised in a foreign country, and educated in a Muslim school, that raise questions. I do not believe that Obama is not a natural born US citizen, I do not believe that he is a muslim, however, the questions have been raised and never answered properly. He has refused to release his college transcripts which would prove, once and for all that he did not register as a foreign student. And I am sorry, what happened in the past does matter, especially with the president. You can say that it matters what happens in Romneys past, but not Obamas? You are a hypocrite.
quote=ole sarg What happened in the past is of no... (show quote)

You may not believe you are a bigot, you sure seem like one to me.
Lets test my theory, you say you believe that he is a Muslem (which is rediclus). Why do you care? Do you beleive a Muslem can be president of the united states?
quote=dtcracer quote=ole sarg What happened in t... (show quote)

Let us test your ability to read, go back and re-read my statement and tell me where it say that I personally believe he is a Muslim?

And to answer your RIDICULOUS question, I do BELIEVE that a Muslim has the right to be President. The Muslim belief is not the problem, the problem with the Muslim religion is the radicals, which exist in ALL religions, including atheism.

Where was the Tea Party when George W took the largest surplus in modern times and turned it into the largest deficit in history. They didn't emerge from their caves until the Black man took office. Protest all you want, the evidence is clear.

You didn't respond to my question on Page3 so I'll try again.

Did you take advantage of any deductions when you filed your tax return? I did. Point is, so did Mr. Romney. It is the current tax code!!! I would also bet you that Reid Pelosi and the rest of the members of the U.S. Congress who paid capital gains paid exactly the same rate as Romney. None of them would be dumb enough to tell their tax preparer to use a higher rate than is required. Would you??

I keep hearing the same thing, The rich should pay more! Duh, Change the tax law or shut up!! They haven't changed the tax law because it will cost them money!!
quote=Kalskag2 quote=harryd Look up Alan Keyes o... (show quote)

How do you know what Romney did or didn't do on his tax returns? He won't release them. Why not? Obviously, he is embarrassed by something in there (or worse, he knows there is something illegal and doesn't want to call attention to it). There is nothing illegal or embarassing in my tax returns. If I were running for President you would be welcome to see every tax return I've ever filed. What is the Mitt hiding?

I'm not accusing you of being anything; doesn't matter to me if you are Christian, aetheist, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or worship of the flying sphagetti monster. Just saying that it is ironic that many hard core Christians can't bring themselves to believe that Obama is Christian. What would Jesus say about that?

In any event, what difference does his religion make?

You seem to know. Your quote from page 3 "I make a hell of a lot less than Romney did, and I resent the fact that he paid a smaller percentage of his income in taxes than I did. He can clearly afford to pay a higher percentage of his income in taxes than I can. So yes, I do think he is shirking his responsibility."

You still didn't answer the question.....

I never said anything about whether or not it makes him fit or unfit for office... I just gave the other side of the story for those who are being accused of racism... Personally I do believe that the constitution guarantees the freedom of religion and does not disqualify anyone from holding office based on religious belief.

As far as the deficit goes the president is on a trajectory to increase the debt more in 8 years than all the presidents who came before him combined.... You are right that Bush was irresponsible in his deficit spending as was pointed out by President Obama on more than one occasion, but Obama puts president Bush back into the Bush League when it comes to irresponsible spending... The country's debt is approaching a critical mass, you can try and deny that if you choose to but go back to what Barack Obama himself has said before assuming office as he was very direct and very much on point when talking about debt and deficits.

The deficit we can discuss.

Is it too much spending or too little revenue.

I think the later which was caused by the House not putting through things like the jobs bill, appropriating money for infrastructure etc.

When people are working they are paying taxes.

Sure have to cut spending, but we also have to spend to put folks to work. You know welfare for the corporations so that they can employ folks.

The party of No has put us in a real bind.

I read a book called "New Deal or Raw Deal ?"
Written by Burton Folsom, Jr.
It quotes Henry Morgenthau Jr. the secretary of the treasury in 1939 who was a close friend of FDR.

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong... somebody can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous, I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises...I say after eight years of the Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started...and an enormous debt to boot!" Sound familiar? Read this book.

Or we can take our medicine and get over the illness, I am almost as much concerned about what the Fed has been doing over the last several years as I am about the deficit... At anyrate you and I have been through the tax and spend enough times that you know my thoughts... Right now we are just stringing things out... I need to spend more time on the issue of deficits for my own edification... I know how I feel about them and their impact on folks and who I think benefits the most from them, but I want to study more their long lasting impact on the economy and why it is that some economists say that they are hugely detrimental... Even Keynes recognized the danger of overspending.

And, this trajectory does not explain why the Tea party emerged only , and immediately, after a black man named Barack entered the whitehouse.
