The Wednesday-night church service coincided with the last day of hunting season.
The following week, our pastor asked who had bagged a deer.
No one raised a hand.
Puzzled, the pastor said, "I don't get it. Last week many of you said you were away because of hunting season. I had the whole congregation pray for your deer."
One hunter groaned, "Well, it worked. They're all safe."

Reminds me that just yesterday there was a very small faun dead along the road near my house, apparently hit by a car. I don't like to see overcrowding of deer, but I really hated seeing this.

Summer is really and truly here. The leaves are raining down off the madrones and the deer have eaten all the flowers in the front yard.
