my grandson knocked a 12ounce cup of coffee on my Dell laptop, drained it off and turned on side in hot Tybee island sun, five hours later it was working. Watched a tutorial on iso he called it I SO, thought it was ISO<which is right?
ISO wants ISO to be pronounced "I so".
Enjoy Tybee! Hope you're enjoying the sights and photo ops of Savannah's squares also!
I've seen it expressed like this in writing. ISO (eye-so). However, most of the photographers with whom I communicate refer to it as
I S O--Bob

I was a Quality Assurance Manager for a good part of my carrier during which I was a certified ISO 9000 Lead Auditor and in charge of ISO 9000 compliance and training for multiple companies. ISO is actually an acronym for the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO consists of a worldwide consortium of national bodies from 162 countries who develop, update, publish and maintain commercial and manufacturing standards for almost every industry you can think of. ". . . ISO is not an acronym. The organization adopted ISO as its abbreviated name in reference to the Greek word isos (ίσος, meaning "equal"), as its name in the three official languages (English, French, Russian) would have different acronyms. . . ."* When the US Government was mandated to reduce the number of DOD and other military documents several years ago, many were adopted by both ISO and ANSI and given ISO or ANSI numbers in place of their prior MIL-STD and DOD-STD numbers. I-so is the proper pronunciation because isos in Greek is pronounced "i-sos".

If it's ISO, shouldn't it be International Standards Organization? Just saying.

That is why it's not I S O but ISO Pronounced "Eye-So".

EYE SO in the USA. People speaking Romance languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian...) may say “EEE SO”, consistent with their use of vowel sounds.
ISO is a proper name, *not* an acronym. If you don’t believe it, read their charter. (The actual original name is French. In English, it is The International Organization for Standardization. They wanted consistency across languages and search engines, so they officially call it ISO.
The field where people most commonly mispronounce ISO is photography. That mispronunciation dates to early reports by the photographic trade press about the switch to ISO standards from ASA and DIN film speed ratings. In their haste to get the word out, they mistakenly assumed it was an acronym! (ASA and DIN were acronyms).

It's just natural people think it's an acronym since the letters are the same as the name of the organization. Besides, us older folks remember ASA, which was an acronym.
Tony Northrop says the correct pronunciation is eye-so. He has a video on the reason for it.
I see ISO lots and have assumed it means "in search of."
I am SO Confused!! I thought it was ASA. ;)
