Curious, Leon. What do you base that on?

At 10+ years age for a camera released in 2007 and discontinued in 2009, probably not a relevant concern.

I had an older Nikon D7000 that was not seeing any use after I purchased a D750 a few years ago so I decided to sell it. Looking around at used camera equipment, I stumbled on the model Nikon D3 at a couple of places for around $1,000 and less. My question, would any of you buy in to this older camera , and is this still a good working camera to have. I look forward to your opinions.
Interestingly, I all of this discussion, I would say don’t buy it.
I’m sure it’s a great camera but I never heard once here the words SPORTS or ACTION come up?? That’s what the camera is designed to do.
Like buying an older race car to go grocery shopping!!!
Maybe what you really need is an SUV or a car that seats 7.
Do you ever shoot in the rain?
Do you ever shoot sports?
Maybe get an old D800 instead!!!
The old 7000 wasn’t getting any use so why will the D3 get any???

While the D3 was a ground breaking camera when it came to high ISO, the D3S was even better. It is still the high-ISO standard to which others are compared. The good thing is that they are only slightly higher than a used D3. If you want most of what the D3 offers and don't mind a smaller, lighter package, the D700 is a smaller lighter version with a smaller battery, no grip, the same sensor and AF system, and a lot cheaper.
I use D700 all the time and love the images it gives me. 12mx is enough for me, I don't think about upgrading to a newer camera. I like the weight, the feel and controls on D700. I have a lot of fun using it with several old Nikon manual lenses.

Hi again Goofy..... Take a look at the last picture of the camera. There should be a 3xxxxx number on bottom of the camera. I don't see one.

I shoot a lot of birds in flight and wildlife in low light and in damp conditions, thought the D3 may be good for that.

You should ignore SS comment because in his opinion you should not buy any Nikon.
yes, I have a D3 and have no problem using it.

Interesting.
Didn’t know that.
I see a D33697 serial number.
I would consider purchasing "older" technology if it had been gently used. I bought my D810 from a member who was trading up to a D850. I still have my 10+ year old D200....10MP....and it makes great images. I sometimes wish I still had my old Speed Graphic.
I use a D3 for birding great camera for BIF and low light. I got it for $700.00 so there are good deals if you shop.
I am not in need of a D3 but I would not hesitate a second buying it if I was looking for a camera. That is a great professional camera and when you see its 20x30 inch enlargements from its 12 Mp sensor you will know why.
Being on a fixed income and needing to make every dollar count, especially when it comes to hobbies, etc. Buying older, used equipment is about my only real choice. Unfortunately, there is a price to be paid for the newest and best and although I sometimes dream about a brand new, full frame camera and accessories, I do pretty well with a Pentax K3 and a Canon T1i as my backup. Anyway, it sounds like the Nikon your interested in is a top notch camera and if the price is right, I'd say go for it! Good luck and good shooting to all.
Not a Nikon but just last weekend I purchased a package deal of a canon xt and the one I actually wanted which was a canon 50d with a sigma 70-300 mm lens.
the xt has the 18-55 kit lens but I got them both for $275.00.
for me the 15 megapixels 50dis sufficient and I love the low light capability over my T1i
Why not? I still use two Nikon D200's, a real workhorse!
