Well done! As to his age, you'd have to check his driver's license or ask him for a copy of his birth certificate.
This is only the second time I have ever seen one minus any red. We have one coming to our suet feeder outside the kitchen window that has no red.
I thought maybe he/she was molting and lost the red feathers. Maybe ours is just a young one, but I thought they had the red head after hatching.
Will have to research that.

There is a small red spot at the top of the head, not shown in either of these pictures. I'll try to remedy that.
This little one did seem to be keeping an eye on Mom.
