You never thought of something off the wall?
Sure, we could also have a discussion about yesterday's cold oatmeal. Also boring!

I went through my Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet that I have for all my photography gear. Total batteries = 122! A few may be AA, AAA or CR32, but for the most part I use rechargeable AA and AAA's. This is just my photo gear. Does not include watches, clocks, phones, other lighting, tools, etc. around the house items.
The energizer bunny is in the PINK, or, should I say, GREEN.

It must not be boring, you're still here.
Letβs not forget hearing aids, sound suppressing ear protection for hunters, wireless headsets, backup batteries in home thermostats and fire alarms. How about door locks. Do you have gun safes? How about clock radios...... and the list goes on.

I don't normally ask questions like this but I recently noticed all of my batteries.
Counting anything that needs a battery that must be charged (cell phones , cameras , tablets , laptop computers , ... anything.
How many batteries are you keeping charged?
Me? 14 { cell phone 1 / I-Pad 1 / tablet 1 / cameras 4 + 3 spare batteries / GoPro 3 / laptop 1 }, and I have a feeling I left off something :-)
It was almost painful to realize I have devices that require 61 batteries. Of those 24 use rechargeable batteries. The devices are Cameras, flash gun, camera remote control, TV & DVD remotes, dust busters, cell phones, drill, tablet, computer, electric razors, waterpic, car, boat, flashlights, kitchen timers, thermometers, bike sensors, wall clock, garage door remote, car GPS, handheld GPS for boat, personal rescue light for boat, handheld VHF radio for boat, smoke alarms, and the house alarm system sensors and backup battery.
Wow, I never would have guessed at the number and the longer it takes me to compile the list and write it down the more things I remember. I almost wish I hadn't compiled the list as it makes me wonder what would happen if our electric grid failed. Ugh!
how about flashlight batteries.
Gosh - if you add in smoke alarms, flashlights, wireless mouse, etc. The list is endless.

Reading later posts I'm reminded of 13 more devices bringing the battery count to 79. Hopefully that will be the final number.
I couldn't venture a guess but I have a large LowePro Backpack dedicated only to batteries and chargers.

Yup. Digital thermometers also (3).
(The original post was regarding rechargeables.)
Yes the original poster was only referring to batteries you charge. So goes to show how carefully some UHH's read.
I forgot to add the battery from my only Apple device, an ipad, not sure if that was intentional or not.
Now here is a further thought on this subject. How much is each of those batteries worth ?
In NZ dollars my cheapest one would be about $8 (rechargeable LiOH torch battery). I don't have any NiMh left except in my toothbrush. My dearest one would be for my drill (Makita), about $180 (18v 6AH). For the batteries included in things like laptops a bit hard to estimate the value. So of my 90 odd batteries an average battery cost might be $16 which equals a value spent of $1440 (note that this does not include car batteries which over 3 vehicles might add an additional $500 per 4 year cycle ).
I would estimate an average lifetime of about 4 years, in your early years you would buy not so many and when you are old not so many but, again an estimate, a buying lifetime of at least say 30 years (leaving aside things like technology changes etc) this means you will spend a total of 30 divided by 4 times $1440 = $10,800 ! Plus the non rechargeables !
This is very ad-hoc with a ton of variables and assumptions but I think the canny investor should have money in battery factories. Also a little frightening.
