During the Presidential debate V.P. Joe Biden heard that the state of Colorado had over 50,000 cattle guards in the State of Colorado so his response was to fire half of them. Though this cattle guard is not in Colorado but in Utah, this is what he wanted half of fired.
That's Joe. Right on top of things.

I dunno. Those things are made of steel. Be mighty hard to set them on fire.
Don’t be conned by this. It’s false and has been attributed to several Govenors over several years. Checking it out on any of the web sites that explain hoaxes will give details of this one.

But is has the ring of truthiness so why fact check. Must be a conspiracy theory here somewhere.
Most hoaxes have a ring of truthfulness as there would be no point in trying to hoax folks with things that were obviously false.
It's not really a hoax, as much as a joke. Some people just weren't bright enough to get it.....
(Snopes reports it been re-told since the 1950s at least. Their first article on it was written in 2000 --- Eight years BEFORE the VP debate where it was supposed to happen. Funny thing --- the only elected official who is so uninformed, impulsive and powerful enough to actually try that, is Trump, but even then, one of his advisers would probably stop him)
My personal favorite...

' Everyone stand up for Chuck'
That’s about how intelligent Washington is.

Firing of Cattle Guards
20 September 2000 Old political joke holds that a clueless U.S. government official ordered half the cattle guards in Colorado be fired.
Had nothing to do with Joe Biden.
