Good afternoon Hedgehogers.
Some of you have offered to help me learn and improve using my Canon Speedlight 430EX III-rt with my Canon 80D. Last time I asked the question, I was asked to provide shots taken with the speedlight. I have had problems when in EV mode (long delay, inconsistant firing). This time I used automatic [A]. Thanks for your review.
Jim

Ah, OK

By far the EASIEST way to shoot flash pix is to set your camera to a moderate ISO 200 - 400, a moderate shutter speed, but not less than the maximum flash sync shutter speed - something in the neighborhood of 1/125, and your lens to a moderate f value, perhaps f5.6 or f8, and set your flash to TTL - Through The Lens mode. (I have no idea how to actually set your Canon camera & Canon flash this way though) This way, your camera & flash will work together to give you generally pretty good - well, well exposed - flash pix.

I can't offer any suggestions about why you're having the 'long delay, inconsistant firing' issues, other than you do have to allow the flash to recycle. The higher the flash output & the more rapidly you shoot sequences of pix, the longer you need to allow the flash to recycle. There should be a way to set your camera & flash to not fire the flash, but take a 'no flash' pic if the flash hasn't recycled rather than 'don't take a pic UNTIL the flash has recycled.'

Good luck & keep practicing.
