I was scanning these tiny Round Leaved Sundew plants for something of interest. They are quite beautiful in their own right but they create drama when they trap living insects with their sticky tendrils. Hard to feel sorry for this female Notch Horned Cleg Fly (Haematopota pluvialis) caught in a deadly tug of war. It's the females that have the mouth parts and seem to take great pleasure in inflicting pain. Even as I photographed this her relatives were sinking their teeth into me!
Please download and then enlarge to see her beautiful striated eyes.
Nasty looking flying object bet can inflict pain well done chuck
Hello Chuck
It really is a horrible fly. You never know they are on you till you feel it's very painful bite. Thank you very much for viewing and for commenting. Really pleased that you liked them.
Like her environment being included. Very good capture.
Hello CSand
Indeed. I was looking for insects trapped by this carnivorous plant. Usually it is a small fly caught by one leaf and you can right in close. This one was actually caught by three separate leafs all fighting for right of ownership. Made for a better picture. Thank you veryt much for viewing and for commenting. Really pleased you liked them.
