I had exactly the same problem with Elements 14. It was working fine and then one update with Windows 10 and then it gave me the not enough RAM message. What I did was upgraded my computer with a 2 TB hard drive, upgraded the RAM to 8 M and bought Elements 18 and it works great.

It means add more RAM. You don't have enough memory to run Photoshop Elements 14.

When is the last time you defragged your computer?

O.K. I thought all computers were the same, just some were newer models?

Nope! Far from it.

RAM is resident in your computer, so using an external hard drive will have no effect on available RAM. As someone said, you can add RAM - but only up to the maximum your computer is designed to accept. Usually, older computer can house less RAM than newer models. I have 16 GB installed in mine. Finally, note that the newer the software, the more RAM it usually uses and the more hard drive space it needs. Good luck!

I do not understand even what RAM is, fairly new to all these technical terms.

Bite the bullet, spend a bit on a computer shop, take your machine and software info to them to analyze what you have and to address what you need. Sounds like you need more memory and they can install that for you. Good luck.

RAM is "remote access memory" and it comes on a circuit board, that fits in a slot inside your computer. Sometimes there are extra slots available so you can buy extra RAM. It is not hard to install this, but if you are not a computer guy, go to the Geek Squad, or some other computer servicing outfit and they will do it for you.

It can be trivial or a pain to upgrade RAM. I have an old Dell laptop where the second RAM slot is under the keyboard, and removing the top of the computer and keyboard was harder than it should have been. It's usually trivial on a desktop computer and some laptops where the bottom is easy to remove, and sometimes it's just under a small cover that you remove. If in doubt, pay someone to do it.

Are there other programs opened at same time? Each one of them uses RAM. close the ones you are not using, accept virus protection. Also check what started up automatically when you turn on your system. I don't get new computer often, but all of the manufacturers and sometimes resellers put junk software on your system. These cloud be turned off, even deleted from your computer.

Thank you, Spotify is one that comes on automatically, since they are looking to charge for their services, I believe they may be the one of the ones who are using up all the RAM. They are not an essential, to me.

You need to call Adobe support and have them do their thing in resetting what was destroyed by the last Windows update. I have elements 18,15 and 10. Only 10 worked and I has Adobe do it's thing. I had the same error message. Sorry that I can not explain any tech explanation. I found out the solution from a previous log on by a hedgehog.

WOW!!! Thank you for the information, I will do this.

Yes, other applications, even running in the background, use memory.
You might want to check with a local computer service to see about increasing the memory.

(Luckily, my last computer did not come loaded with a bunch of crap, but prior ones did. Being a programmer, I despised that and always removed all of the "junk" programs.)

Think of RAM as a mixing bowl and programs running as the ingredients. You can only put so may ingredients in the bowl before you need a larger bowl.

Thank you, that explains a lot, I will do this.

It's hard to believe you don't have even 4GB of RAM in your computer. Maybe you have too much running in the background.

Hi Jerry,...…...I checked, I do have 4GB, but something is using it all up.

Answers to this question will come easy to the experienced, but might be difficult for others to discover. If your machine runs Windows 10 I am pretty sure it has enough built-in RAM to perform still photo editing well. Video editing is much more RAM intensive and might be pushing the limits. I can thing of only two ideas that you can use on your own. Before you seek help you might want to make sure you are running only PSE while editing. Running other programs at the same time could create problems. You should restart your machine at least once or twice a week. A restart might close any background processes.

Use the task manager (control-alt-delete) to see what background processes might be running. CPU use should return to 10% or less when the machine is idle. Background processes could be consuming all available RAM, and might reveal a virus or malware. You might be able to "end-task" running processes, but well written malware will start right up again, or you might close something your PC needs. Write down the name of the process then Google it to see what it does and if it is malware.

If none of this helps you probably need experienced, but not necessarily paid, help. Start with a more experienced friend or relative. If you do have to seek paid help you probably will have to spend less than $100. Any more than this and you might want to look into a different consultant or a new PC.

Thank you, wteffey, I will write this down & follow your instructions, this has issue has to be resolved. Thank you again for this information.

You don't have enough RAM, the program "requires" a minimum of 6GB and most folks have 16GB. As I mentioned previously, bite the bullet and spend the money to have a computer tech add more RAM to your system.

I recently put PSElements 2018 on my new Windows 10 computer. It has plenty of RAM. PS started showing the "not enough RAM" message. A call to Adobe customer care fixed the problem. Apparently, when Windows 10 did an update is messed with some of the PS preferences. The tech fixed it in a few minutes. All is well. Had to do a Google search to find the phone number, however. I'm sure Adobe customer care can fix you up.

Thank you, Zylpha, for this information.
