Oh no.
There may be an "average" RAM population though, with what most systems are populated.
My laptop has 4Gb, and my desktop has 8Gb (both 6 years old).
Newer computers are built with larger amounts than older ones.

Thank you, this will be very important when I am in the market for a newer computer.
Does this mean my currant windows 10 computer needs to be thrown away because the RAM is all used up?

In Win 7 if you click on "My Computer" and click on "System Properties" (Not sure if it's the same for 10.), it should list a bunch of stuff, including how much RAM is in the system.
If it says less than 4Gb, probably. But if you purchased the computer and it came with Win 10, it probably has much more than 4.

Thank you, I will do this.

NO! RAM chips are usually pretty reliable. Basically there is no such thing as used up, Ram just gets filled up, but it keeps working. What happens is that it writes some information to the hard drive to store while working on other things until it can get back to what it has on the hard drive putting it back into the RAM chip. That slows a computer down but doesn't make it not work.

As I and someone else said, you can put more RAM GB chips into your PC. And again 8-12 GB of RAM is usually good enough for the average user. 4 GB RAM is kind of light on Ram but it still works.

A lot of the entry level computers are populated with only 4GB RAM to make the price low & appealing. The 4GB of memory is the bare minimum to run an operating system, such as Windows 10 or 7, and if you do have that low amount, the machine spends an awful lot of time caching back to the hard drive. Most systems will take 16-32GB RAM is they are a desktop system while a lot of laptops have an 8GB maximum. If your Photoshop worked before but not now, you probably have another memory hungry process running that's been added or activated since your PE installation.
A RAM upgrade may be your easiest solution if you're running the bare minimum.

I checked this out, I have only 4 GB RAM. Thank you, for helping me to find out how much RAM I have.

Are there other programs opened at same time? Each one of them uses RAM. close the ones you are not using, accept virus protection. Also check what started up automatically when you turn on your system. I don't get new computer often, but all of the manufacturers and sometimes resellers put junk software on your system. These cloud be turned off, even deleted from your computer.

You need to call Adobe support and have them do their thing in resetting what was destroyed by the last Windows update. I have elements 18,15 and 10. Only 10 worked and I has Adobe do it's thing. I had the same error message. Sorry that I can not explain any tech explanation. I found out the solution from a previous log on by a hedgehog.

Yes, other applications, even running in the background, use memory.
You might want to check with a local computer service to see about increasing the memory.

(Luckily, my last computer did not come loaded with a bunch of crap, but prior ones did. Being a programmer, I despised that and always removed all of the "junk" programs.)

Think of RAM as a mixing bowl and programs running as the ingredients. You can only put so may ingredients in the bowl before you need a larger bowl.

Trying to use my Photoshop Elements 14, this message keeps coming up, that there is not enough RAM.

What does that mean?

Can this be fixed so I can continue to use this program?

Thank you in advance for any information you are able to give to fix this problem.

It's hard to believe you don't have even 4GB of RAM in your computer. Maybe you have too much running in the background.

Answers to this question will come easy to the experienced, but might be difficult for others to discover. If your machine runs Windows 10 I am pretty sure it has enough built-in RAM to perform still photo editing well. Video editing is much more RAM intensive and might be pushing the limits. I can thing of only two ideas that you can use on your own. Before you seek help you might want to make sure you are running only PSE while editing. Running other programs at the same time could create problems. You should restart your machine at least once or twice a week. A restart might close any background processes.

Use the task manager (control-alt-delete) to see what background processes might be running. CPU use should return to 10% or less when the machine is idle. Background processes could be consuming all available RAM, and might reveal a virus or malware. You might be able to "end-task" running processes, but well written malware will start right up again, or you might close something your PC needs. Write down the name of the process then Google it to see what it does and if it is malware.

If none of this helps you probably need experienced, but not necessarily paid, help. Start with a more experienced friend or relative. If you do have to seek paid help you probably will have to spend less than $100. Any more than this and you might want to look into a different consultant or a new PC.

I recently put PSElements 2018 on my new Windows 10 computer. It has plenty of RAM. PS started showing the "not enough RAM" message. A call to Adobe customer care fixed the problem. Apparently, when Windows 10 did an update is messed with some of the PS preferences. The tech fixed it in a few minutes. All is well. Had to do a Google search to find the phone number, however. I'm sure Adobe customer care can fix you up.

Yes it can and it's easy in most systems. The message is indicating your computer does not have sufficient RAM, (Ready Access Memory). You can purchase more memory at a reasonable price and install it. Easiest way is to use Crucial Memory analyzer.(www.crucial.com/usa/en/advisor)
It will automatically scan your computer and indicate the correct memory upgrade. Or, you can take it to a local computer shop or have a friend do it. It's a very simple procedure, but you have to be comfortable with opening the computer enclosure.
