Can you ID this strange gadget?

My wife found this weird little item in a kitchen drawer, and I can't remember what it is. Can anyone help? It is 2" wide, there is a spring in the black part, and the white part has a soft rubber pad on each side. The writing says "Made in Taiwan."

I think it could be for cutting the foil wrap that is around wine bottle tops. Just a guess.

I don’t think so. I have foil cutters and this just doesn’t look like it is sharp enough to do that. I don’t have any idea what it is.

It's a device for measuring a fourescent score motion on the up end of a gram meter. Right next to the drawn recipriacal dingle arm

From experience I can tell you the fool roof way to remeber what is! Throw it away and as the garbage truck drives off you will know what it is how much you paid and why you need it!

I don't know what it is but I did a Google image search and it says that the item is a "gadget". Hope that helps. :)
