I seem to have a haze - or slight losss of contrast in the blacks. This seems to only happen on my 70-200 Nikon lens. It is clean. Thoughts?

Do you have something growing in there? I lost a lens to fungus , mold or whatever was growing in there.

Without a photo including EXIF data, it is hard to recommend anything

Do you have a "protection" filter on the lens?

If so, remove it and try without.

If not already doing so, instead use a lens hood. That will give better physical protection than a filter... AND a hood can improve color and contrast in images.

In actual hazy shooting conditions, it may help to use a high quality, multi-coated Circular Polarizing filter.

There are some atmospheric haze situations where a high quality, multi-coated UV filter can help, too (faintly bluish haze in scenic images, for example).

I've also seen images appear "soft", lose resolution and have some other effects... due to a dirty sensor.

Since this only applies to one lens, I'm guessing a fingerprint on the mount end of the lens glass or you have moisture in that lens.

Oh please, it's pretty clear that the problem is due to a worn phramistat. He just needs to swap it out for a new one and it will work just fine.

The lens would have worked fine if not for the Golgafrinchans. They always screw with the computational matrix and you know what happens then. 4x9=42 and hazy photos!

Just throwing this out as a possibility because it happened to me. If you have your equipment in a air conditioned space and then go into a warm humid ambient space fog will form as soon as you pull your lens cover off.

You're right!!!! Totally forgot about the Golga's. From what I remember, it could get really really bad.
