This weekend was fun shooting the Big Muddy Air Race in Carbondale, IL. 35 planes arrived by racetime.
As did the weather. Only 9 planes completed the 150+ mile course... About 25 launched but the storm over the Mississippi lead most to abort.
The pics of takeoff I shot with Canon 7D, 100-400 5.6f + 1.4x TC. Tried to keep the shutter speed down to get some prop blur. Toughest task was framing and focusing... One plane I didn't get a single decent shot... oh well...
Bad luck on the weather - but typical for the Midwest for any event. At least it wasn't a total bust!
It is not as easy as some may think. Thanks for sharing you photo/ It is a good shot.

I think I would have been much steadier with a card table to rest my elbows on. I tried the tripod last year but learned quickly that there's too much action to be anchored that tight.
