Painted Turtle with 2 Dragonflies on it's back.

They were about 20-25 feet away. Hand held @ 800mm. Look closely at it's lower back to see the Dragonflies in focus.
Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 2x III - 1/320 - f/8 - ISO @ 400.
Nice shot. I didn't see them at first. Great color cover for them.

Thank you very much, Jim. I didn't see the dragonflies when I shot the turtle.
Those are Damsel flies. Dragons wings extend 90 degrees to their body, Damsels wings extend along the body. Just sayin'.

Yes, great shot. You have made me feel guilty about not using my sr much as I learn my new MarkIV...unbelievable that you hand held@800 mm! I am also impressed witht the Canon 2x III. Hdn't known that one that powerful could result in that fine a photo. I have used a non-Canon on a 8-15 fish eye and mostly use my 100mm macro in the ocean. Now you have me wondering yet more.
Thanks

The Canon 2x III extender will give you very sharp results if you are using a prime lens with a f/4 or f/2.8 value. Remember, my lens and extender is hooked up to my 50.6 mp Canon 5Dsr camera giving it extra sharpness. I can easily read a car license plate a 1/2 mile away in the camera with my photo combo. For hand holding, this may be the sharpest camera/lens/extender on the market, but it comes at a price of $11,000 total.
The Canon 500mm and 600mm and the Canon 400 f 2.8 prime lenses will give you more detail at a much higher price and weight and because of their heavier weight, they must
be mounted on a tripod.
Your Canon Mark IV is a great camera and would be my second choice. Below is a picture of my photo combo.
Thank you very much, berasner.
I do love my sr ( had it for 2 years) but with a surgery and back in the ocean in another couple of weeks with other lenses ( including my `100 mm macro....just have not gone back to it now that I an fiffidling around with the new IV. My biggest zoom is only the 70 to 200 and have a smaller non-Canon x1.4extender This is why I was impressed with the Canon extender and your hand held wiht such heavy lenses. With my sr in the water and the shallow depth of field with my 100 macro....not much room for movement!
PS...never thought to use my newe pistol grip on the canon after getting it a while ago for the Gopro.

Thank you very much, berasner. Time will bring you a better lens. Every 6 months there are better lenses and cameras.
