I'd love to be there now, but...

I bet you'll come back with some shots of lave, old and new. : )

I have friends there now. Hilo and Kona are relatively unaffected except they have experienced days of just plane grey skies from the ash and vlog--a lava caused fog. No breathing problems, but grey. The Volcano National Park is still mostly closed but for one small bit. I have been checking it, as I had planned to travel there before the eruption. There is just a small part of the island that is affected, but officials are asking tourists not to go there because of constantly changing conditions that are somewhat unpredictable. Hilo and Kona should be fine though. Enjoy your trip.

Kona is well away from the volcano activity, opposite side of the island. Friend of mine has a coffee farm there.

I lived on Oahu for five years. I loved it but it took all my money to just live. I couldn't save money so I came back to the mainland. I loved it.
