Just got a D750 w 24-120 lens. Photos of the yard were great, but this photo of the sun showed white specks. I changed to a different lens, and still some specks. Any ideas?

You changed lenses, did the specks change position with the other lens?
Since they have flare, it looks like dust on the lens (front or back), possibly inside???.
Exacerbated by the direct sun.
Dust on the sensor would show shaded spots as it would be shading the sensor pixels.

what do you get when you take a picture of a "normal" subject. Not pointing at the sun?

No problems, even took a picture of a white paper, no artifacts. Since posting, I tried the same thing with my D5100 and its 18-55, same thing. Never knew of this phenomenon, but since my D5100 does it too, must be a normal thing. Definitely not dust specks, as they would be dark. Sensors are clean.

Dust specks on the sensor would be dark.
Dust in/on a lens would be white with all the light bouncing around in the lens. The brighter the light, the more pronounced the dust.
Not seeing anything on a photo of a white sheet doesn't surprise me. Kinda like shooting a polar bear in a snow storm.

Did you use a very small aperture? If you did I think it's the dust on the sensor which is more visible with small aperture.

Were they visible to the naked eye between shots? I've seen this kind of thing when spider silk is drifting on the wind. It's called spider ballooning.
It doesn't always have to be a camera thing.

There has been a lot of airborne pollen and dandelion type parachutes, never thought of that, but it would be better those than dust in the lens. The aperture was small. Either way, the photos of the peonies I took around the same time were beautiful!

Going to Oregon tomorrow, (from Rochester, NY). I'll try a few shots of the sun out there and see if there is any difference.

We have the same sun as the rest of the planet, so I wouldn't expect anything different.

It could be an aberration in the lenses. I have an older lens that when you look at it in certain light conditions it appears to have bubbles on the surface. When I shoot in specific settings I will get the dots you got I called the manufacturer and their response was is that it passed quality and they could do nothing to correct it other than to make an offer on another lens

These are not white specs. These are "orbs". They are the spirits of "Photographers, Past". Usually quite harmless, these spirits tend to mind their own business. Unless. you photograph them. If any problems arise, 5 Our Fathers and 4 Hail Marys, should rectify the situation.

Can't be the same as the UK sun, as it's mostly hiding.
