While in the LR Develop module the areas that are clipped (pure white) show up in red. Pushing "O" has no effect. How do I get rid of the red when I don't want to see it?
On the right hand panel, go to the histogram. In the upper right hand corner of the histogram there's a little triangle looking thing. Click on that. On the left hand side is the same thing that will show you where the shadows are underexposed. That one will show purple.

You can toggle the display on and off using the "j" key as a shortcut too...

Or leave it on and pull down the white slider till the red overlay is gone (highlight clipping corrected.l).
