Yet here you are recommending books.

In your opinion, what would be classified as proof, that you can learn to be artistic?

And to answer your question, I did read every post.

I would also like to ask your opinion why you don’t see the relevance of my request to see pictures. After all, we are on a photography forum, you know, we take pictures, that we look at.

My last question is: Did YOU bother reading the OP?

This is indeed a forum. I will help you with this difficult (for you) word.

Forum: a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

As has been pointed out by others there are sites and even areas on this site for the purpose of posting, sharing and critiquing images. Admin even automatically moves OPs with images out of this section to the Gallery on a regular basis.

Try to get with the program dude.

Nah.... Hell, he can't even draw! I bet he never amounted to anything and this picture ended up in a trash heap somewhere...

Also thank you for having a link for your flickr page so that I can see your images.

So if it is indeed a forum, how come you have an issue with me asking for examples of photos?

And how come you are ignoring my questions?

LMAO!!!!!

You really don't get it. Because it is a forum for discussion not show and tell. There is no show me a picture in order to discuss requirement. It just is not there.

There are several on here that either never post images or seldom do so. I suspect that others who post images often feel that those people lack a certain of credibility as they don't demonstrate their knowledge through images.

There are many understandable reasons not to post images on here. Nor should one have to post images on here to prove anything. As I previously mentioned, I rarely post images on here. However, I have included a link to my website in my signature for those that want to view my work.

u guys & gals lost me couple pages ago.I didnt know I had any ability till I picked up a minolta xgm. Photography to me means having a vivid imagination. These days if I get bored outdoors I use that imagination and get creative.I only shoot out in the woods. some of the best advice ever to enter my brain was an article from a teacher that took students out to a 20' square and had them take pictures.Give me some space out there and I'll find something to shoot- even if I have to create it.Can I move this here and add that and have a nice shot? On the other hand I have never edited a photo so do I have more artistic ability or technical?

A quote from a former art teacher friend....

"There are two types of people who believe that artistic talent, as opposed to proficiency, can be learned. Those who don't have any and know it, and those who don't have any and don't know it...."

And if anyone doubted your creativity, all one needs to do is click on your links.

And you are right, no one needs to prove anything, but if you join a thread and make some pretty solid statements, it helps to see who we are about to listen to.

I am an artist and feel deeply that art comes from a different part of the brain... yes you can improve skills, but art is more than skills, it's a "creative spirit" that comes to the conscious mind and I can see or am inspired to paint what I see in my conscious mind.... But I also consider the fact that we all have a creative spirit in us, & can with developing skills create! It might show up as a Chef, or an inventor, creating devices like the iPOD,& space devices...... VanGogh only sold 1 painting in his lifetime ( some debate how many but it wasn't many, his genius was not in his ability to paint,( he actually ate paint) but how he saw life and how he painted it..
Just because I can handle a brush and paint on canvas, in no way diminishes the art of other skills. As long as it is heading toward an original idea, thoughts outside the box. The problem with being taught art per se, is that its a learned skill and has to be used with original thought and experimenting with other mediums..

I have always been fascinated shadows ( negative space, absence of anything) see attachment..
If you are taught how to operate a camera & take the same photos year in and out, its not art but a stifled
creative spirit... I try to find subjects that are not so perfect, like B&W of the homeless, old dilapidated structures......

I'm linking to a reference about my last post in page 9 which showed the "Guernica" by Picasso, below, since the discussion then was about art. I did it with the hope that, maybe if this panel can agree on what good art is when one sees it, (who would disagree with this piece?) then maybe one can agree on other such matters too. Sometimes you have to pin things down to Black and White.

If you expect the group in this thread you will likely end up disappointed. People often can't even agree what is art and what isn't. Many philosophers have created theories and debated this matter. Often what is art or not gets tangled up in there argument of what is a good or bad art. However, to me there are two separate issues. What is good art is a matter of personal taste and interests. It is even more unlikely be agreed upon.

I happen to really like Guernica and how Picasso depicts the absolute horror of war in it. To me it is an extremely important painting both in terms of Picasso's aesthetic and as an artistic response to the chaos and tragedy going on in Europe at the time.

If I didn't think I can improve my artistic ability a little more with each outing, I'd sell my gear tomorrow. I'd like to leave this world with at least a handful of images that people will look at and think I knew what I was doing.
