I'd appreciate reviews on Canon 77d if anyone owns it? Thinking of upgrading from a Canon t3i.

I do not own a 77D, but I do own a T3i and decided to upgrade to refurb 80D, which is definitely a significant upgrade. I certainly considered the 77D seriously, and I think that it would be a worthy upgrade. I still have and use the T3i, which I consider to be a good camera, although aging, although not as much as my AE-1 or T90!

I don't use the 77D or the T3i but I do know the 77D is a considerable upgrade over the T3i. Just look at the specs. of both cameras.

The 77D is on sale for $649 at BH Photo which seems to be an affordable upgrade. They offered to give me $175 for my Canon t3i and 18-55mm kit lens. I'm considering it but then I do hate to part with the t3i since I learned on it and I can always gift it to my grandkids when/if they ever have an interest in photography.

I have a 77D, and absolutely love it. The Auto Focus is excellent, and the Canon Digic 7 Processor has extended the low light capabilities of the camera. I had also considered the T7i, but settled on the 77D because of the added features, including the top LCD screen. I also considered the 80D, but the 77D has better low light performance, and that was important to me. The max native ISO setting on the 77D is 25600, (expandable to 51200) The 80D has a max native ISO of 16000, expandable to 25600. The 77D does not have weather sealing, and it has a slightly smaller viewfinder than the 80D. However, weather sealing wasn't that important to me, and the viewfinder is bright, clear and more than adequate. The current sale price on the 77D right now is fantastic. All the Authorized Canon vendors, such as B&H, Best Buy, and Adorama, as well as the Canon website, are selling a new 77D body for $649.00. This is less than the Canon refurbished price, and less than a new T7i. The body is the same size as the T7i, which is a bit smaller than the 80D. If you are looking for a mid range crop sensor camera with up to date features, I think the 77D is a great choice. This is solely based on my personal experience with the camera.

thank you.....all your stated reasons for liking it are exactly what I've been thinking about! I also like the idea of the lighter body. Thanks to all who responded so far. It's greatly appreciated.

I have had the 77D for about 6 months. It has the same sensor, and up-level DIGIC Processor as the 80D. The trade-offs:

Smaller (and lighter) battery smaller life on charge. But it outlasts me.
Pellicle (Rebel Style Mirror) vs. Heavier Penta Prism. I've not experienced andy difficulty or noticed a difference.
The Mode dial has no ability to store an alternate set of custom functions, i.e. C1, C2. Not available on to a Rebels.

Reasons over the T7i:
Top Screen which I've been using since 1992.
Rear Dial like the D series
Articulating screen.

It weighs 11 ounces less than the 80D--approx same weight as an A6300.

I'd buy it again especially at the NEW price.
IQ is great. 24MP gives you some "crop room" to still be able to print a little larger like 11x14 or maybe the next size easily.

The touch screen is a novelty but a good one. The Smart Phone remote app is nothing short of exceptional.

Nice Camera and a big step up from the T3i. I came from a 50D.

If weight is the primary criterion, go with the 77D. If robustness is more important then the 80D. They are both excellent cameras

Just a heads up to the OP. The "new" price on the 77D is part of a current Canon sale on several of their models, that has been going for a couple months. The sale may not last too much longer. It appears to be a seasonal sale.

Think I read the other day a 90D is in the offing, either later this year or early next year.

I've had mine just a week. It is just what I expected -- based on what I learned from discussions on UHH of it vs. the 80D and Rebel 7i. I'm happy with it.

I like my 77d and the functionality and location of controls is fairly intuitive having previously had a T3i as well (i.e. not a huge learning curve) I cannot speak to the video capabilities ( not that you asked), but image quality for photographs is an upgrade from the T3i, in my opinion.
