Actually, I'm still using Elements 12 which works great for me. I also use the built in catalog feature which I understand is much like Lightroom's and PSE is stand alone which doesn't REQUIRE a person to update. I don't do much in Raw simply because I abhor sitting at my computer for hours on end converting, and if I do I use the Canon utility which came free. (No monthly charge) I try to get it right in camera avoiding a lot of PP. I merely suggested to the OP, which I gathered from him he will be a novice at PP that there are alternatives to PS/Lightroom without the steep learning curve. After all, he can always subscribe at ANYTIME should he feel the need for Adobe's monthly (never ending) PS/LR suite.

I'm not an Adobe fanboy either, but I like my Adobe PS Elements.

What you have now seems to meet your needs, and that's terrific. Its great that we all have various combinations of options that allow us to achieve our post processing goals. There is no single approach that meets everyone's requirements.

Yes to Adobe CC! Then get to CreativeLive.com for a bunch of training. Ben Willmore is good at instructing. Just learn a few steps at a time... and stick with it! Have fun!

Yes to this understanding: "suggesting that he simply use Elements initially as a stand alone??"

I suggested so due to his status as a beginner.

Hope this answer clarifies.

AnotherView, please elaborate. Are you telling the OP he can correlate Elements with Lightroom (ie Use Lightroom as a plug in to Elements) or are you suggesting that he simply use Elements initially as a stand alone??

My reason for asking: I love Lightroom and I cannot seem to get a handle on Photoshop! I know Lightroom 6 can be used as a plug in to Elements but I also wonder if Lightroom Classic CC can be used as a plug in to Elements as opposed to Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop??

I do not see Lightroom 6 as a viable long-term option as it is no longer supported but am wishing for a simpler Photoshop!

Can you or anyone of you folks who know so much more than me discuss this option please? I would love to know if its viable and if it is, what would I or the OP or whoever be giving up going this route.

If not workable fine. If it is workable what are the pros and cons???

Tom

I am a software junkie and I have been since the 8086 days. I have used them all and I still use many of them from AutoCAD on. Vector and pixel. You cannot find a better combination than the $10 per month Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic offering. You do not have to use all the power they make available nor do you have to learn it all at once to produce stellar post-processing. There are tutorials out the gazoo and more books than you can ever read regarding these applications. There are very specific tutorials or complete classes. For most of my images, I need on 4 or five sliders in LR Classic. But when I need to do something special to an image it is all there. Don't let the nay-sayers sway you. Many of them don't even have sites listed so you can see their work.

Consider Corel PSP, frequently on sale, no monthly fee, does most everything, easier to learn, looked at Adobe products, tried them, never went back, Bob.

I'm glad Corel works for you. Its wonderful there are so many choices. Having spent 2 days reviewing it in detail, unfortunately as nice as it is, it is not in the same league as LR/PS nor a one to one replacement for it. Not everyone needs that level of functionality, but for those who do, PSP simply can't replace the Abobe offerings.

I agree.

It’s complete. It’s quite easy to learn, and at ten bucks a month, it’s affordable.

That may change, and I may switch if it does. But at the moment, I think it’s one of the best bargains out there.

I have low brand loyalty, so if something better and cheaper comes along, I’ll be willing to switch.

If you use Apple take a look at Luminar. I’ve been using it for 2 years as a amatuer/enthusiat and it meets my needs completely.

Thanks for the realistic view of the capability of Photoshop CC. Nothing can compare. The lesser programs, however, may suit some individuals, for their own reasons.

I started out with Photoshop Elements, but after a while outgrew it. One day I switched to the full Photoshop and never looked back.

Another great option is "Affinity" . . . this English company developed this site when Adobe went to CC and charged a monthly fee after PS 6. I have always been an Adobe fan with PS, LR, Illustrator, In Design etc. and have used it for years. Affinity came out with almost a replica of PS . . with some slick advantages. For instance "blending modes" change as you place the cursor over them and many others. The cost is a modest $49.00 US and (I think) updates are free. I bought it just because PS6 will someday be obsolete. At this point I am still using Adobe PS and love it. Check it out below.
